'Tis Archanea's burden to protect the world of crisis—a duty I have striven to fulfill. But Dolhr has laid waste to my kingdom, and now I find myself powerless to stop the world from falling into ruin.
— Nyna, to Marth

Nyna (pronounced /ˈninə/[key][1] or /ˈnaɪnə/[key][2]; Japanese: ニーナ Niena) is the Princess of the Holy Kingdom of Archanea, the daughter of the late twenty-third king. In the fall of Archanea at the onset of the War of Shadows, she was the sole survivor, reluctantly kept alive by the forces of Dolhr even as her entire family was executed, the result of the efforts of Camus of Grust. After two years of imprisonment in her conquered home, when it became clear that Dolhr was growing tired of her continued existence, Camus led a small band of knights of the Sable Order in spiriting her away to Aurelis, where she entered the protection of its Prince Hardin. It is there that she and Hardin meet Marth, Altea's prince, and under him and the Fire Emblem she entrusts to him, the resistance to Dolhr's tyranny begins and grows, progressing to liberate Archanea and Altea, and to defeat Gra, Grust, Macedon and eventually Dolhr itself.

After the war, upon the advice and pressure of Bishop Boah and other Archanean nobles, Nyna marries Hardin despite her lingering feelings for the lost Camus; as such, Hardin is crowned Archanea's 24th king. Hardin soon learns of the absence of love in their marriage, which casts him into a deep depression and, under the influence of Gharnef's Darksphere, twists him into a man of rage and hatred. Nyna hands the Fire Emblem over to Linde, instructing her to give it to Marth, before Hardin hands her over without hesitation to Gharnef, who takes her to be used as one of four noblewoman sacrifices for the revival of Medeus.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Portrait nyna fe01.png

Since her release by Camus, Nyna had been under the care of Prince Hardin of Aurelis, and of his elder brother the king, as they actively resisted the Macedon occupation of the country. The tide of the battle turns when Marth and the Altean army arrive, joining with Hardin's men to reclaim the castle and territory. At the conclusion of the battle, Nyna entrusts Marth with the command of the united resistance army, granting him the Fire Emblem as a symbol of his leadership and responsibility to save Archanea.

The resistance army quickly progresses to reclaim Archanea, where Nyna retrieves the Parthia and hands it over to Marth's army for its use. From there, under Marth's direction, the army defeats Gra, then takes a detour to Khadein in an effort to find the missing Falchion, before returning to and reclaiming Altea. From there, the army progresses to Grust. Nyna confesses to Marth her history with Camus, and of her ongoing affection for the man; when facing Camus's forces near the Grust castle, Nyna and Marth attempt to persuade Camus to defect, with no success. For a time, following Camus's defeat and disappearance, Nyna grieves.

In short order, Macedon and Dolhr itself both fall, Medeus is killed by Marth's hand, and the war is over. Nyna convinces a mildly confused Marth to confess his longtime feelings for Caeda to her, resulting in Marth and Caeda becoming engaged. After the war, on the advice of Boah, she proposes to Hardin and the two marry, with him becoming Archanea's 24th king.

After the war, on the advice of Boah, she proposes to Hardin and the two marry, with him becoming Archanea's 24th king.

Book 2

Role

Eventually, Hardin learns of the nature of her proposal and her lack of love for him, first sending him into a depression, then afterward corrupting him into a despot under the influence of the Darksphere. Nyna quickly notices the change, and in response entrusts the Fire Emblem to her apprentice Linde, to get it to Marth in preparation for the oncoming crisis. Hardin then imprisons her, later handing her over to Gharnef without hesitation. Gharnef takes her away to the Dragon's Altar, to use her as one of four sacrifices of noble blood to revive Medeus, along with Elice of Altea, and Lena and Maria of Macedon.

By the time Marth reaches the Dragon's Altar, Medeus has already been revived, albeit in an incomplete form, with the four noblewomen surrounding him in preparation to be sacrificed and consumed to strengthen him to the point of full revival. The four have been hypnotized into subservience to Medeus by Gharnef. Sirius approaches Nyna and awakes her from the hypnosis; she instantly recognizes him as Camus, despite his protestations. After Medeus's fall, she entrusts the rule of Archanea to Marth, then disappears and is never seen again.

Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga

Role

When the army of Dolhr comes to lay siege to Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, Nyna's father gives Boah the task of escorting her out of the palace to escape to safety. Nyna initially protests as she did not wish to abandon her father to the mercies of Dolhr, but Boah puts her to sleep with a staff to prevent her protestations and to get on with the escape, assisted by a retinue of Archanean knights led by Midia. On their way out, the group is cornered in a room of the palace by a number of Dolhr soldiers led by Gouber, and fights to resist capture for some time until Camus arrives to finish the job. Losing hope, Nyna attempts to commit suicide, but is persuaded to stop and survive by Camus, who encourages her to survive for the good of Archanea's future and people.

For the ensuing time period, Pales and Nyna remain under Camus's custody, and she is given relative freedom as he protects her. In two years, however, Camus receives word that minions of Dolhr approach Pales, looking to take Nyna and likely end her life. Camus decides to take Nyna to Aurelis, to be protected by its Prince Hardin; Nyna initially protests the idea of Camus sacrificing himself for her, the inevitable result, confessing her love for him in the process, but soon reluctantly accepts. On the way, the Dolhr forces led by Brzak soon catches up, and for a time is fended off by Camus and his three Sable Knights, with Nyna protesting the idea of them sacrificing themselves for her. In the end, Hardin rides out to meet Nyna, who collapses in his arms and is taken into his care, still wishing for Camus's safety.

Analysis

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Nyna is effectively a non-unit: she is primarily there for story purposes, and you do not even have to recruit her to progress. Failure to do so, however, mandates her death, be it by the player or Medeus using her as a sacrifice.

That being said, despite her atrocious stats, she is not completely useless. While her healing output with magic-scaling staves is genuinely horrible, she can still use Recover to fully heal an ally with her action each turn, which can easily be brought to her by putting it in Sirius's inventory and trading it over after Sirius recruits her. Additionally, between herself and Elice, the two can heal everyone else for 28 HP total with two Fortify casts, which can potentially free up other staff users' actions by providing some healing whenever it is needed. On anything lower than Lunatic, she can also use the Aum if things go wrong, at the very least freeing up another, potentially better trained, Aum user's action.

Today, I'll introduce you to Nyna, princess of Archanea, the kingdom that boasts the largest sphere of influence on the continent of the same name. She is from a distinguished lineage and inherited the Fire Emblem, symbol of the ruler who delivers the world from peril. However, the other members of the royal family of Archanea were wiped out when the kingdom was invaded by the Dolhr Empire, led by the Shadow Dragon, Medeus, and its ally, the kingdom of Grust. Fearing capture, Nyna was about to end her own life when she was stopped by Camus, a general of Grust. Nyna fled to Aurelis, where she obtained the aid of Hardin and proclaimed her intent to defeat Dolhr. She then entrusted the Fire Emblem to Marth and laid the groundwork for peace to be brought back to the land.
