— Grima

Grima (pronounced /ˈɡɹimə/[key][1]; Japanese: ギムレー Gimurei) is an antagonistic dragon serving as the main antagonist and final boss of Fire Emblem Awakening. Long before Chrom's era, but after Marth's, Grima sought to conquer the continent of Archanea/Ylisse. He is reviled in most of the world as the "Fell Dragon" (Japanese: 邪竜 Evil Dragon), but the Grimleal in Plegia worship Grima as their god.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Approximately 1000 years before the events of Fire Emblem Awakening, Grima attempted to conquer the continent by making a blood pact with and possessing humans, with the support of a cult of followers, the Grimleal. Grima was stopped by a man with whom Naga had made a blood pact and who wielded Falchion (and therefore very probably a descendant of Marth); in his defeat, Grima was slain and is in the modern era considered to be "sleeping." The man then went on to become the first Exalt of Ylisse.

The remainder of the Grimleal after Grima's defeat founded the nation of Plegia, and the cult waited for a child to be born with pure enough blood of Grima to be his vessel, thereby facilitating his return. To ensure that the past would fall into disarray, the future Grima traveled back in time with the body of Robin of his timeline and attempted to possess Robin. However, after being weakened by the time travel, he was unable to fully possess them, weakening him further and leaving Robin with amnesia.

After Validar's failure to assassinate Emmeryn, and his subsequent death, he is revived by Grima to complete the mission of reviving Grima at his full power. Validar becomes the king of Plegia after Gangrel's defeat, and he introduces Grima in Future Robin's body to Chrom and Robin as the Hierophant. To their shock, they realize the Hierophant resembles Robin (due to being the body of the Robin of the future).

Validar is defeated by the Shepherds again after stealing the Fire Emblem from Chrom. Despite this, the Hierophant approaches them and reveals that they look like Robin because they are Robin from the ruined future, who was successfully possessed by Grima and killed Chrom. The Hierophant succeeds in reviving the Fell Dragon by their own hand.

Chrom quickly sets out to perform the Awakening ritual to receive Naga's power and defeat Grima. He and Robin battle the fell dragon and severely wound him, leading to two possible outcomes. If Chrom deals the final blow, Grima is sealed away for another thousand years, and Robin expresses their regret at not being able to stop him permanently. If Robin deals the final blow, they permanently destroy Grima with his own power at the cost of their own life. However, the bonds Robin made with the rest of the Shepherds eventually brings them back to life.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Role

Some time before the events of the game, a Thabean alchemist named Forneus sought to create the "perfect life". During his studies, he learned how to make an army of the dead, which would become known as the Risen. Using divine dragon blood, Forneus was able to create a powerful fell dragon named Grima. Grima started off small until Forneus gave it his own blood, which increased its size. Overtime, Forneus started to hear Grima's voice in his head, until he was driven to insanity.

During the post game of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Alm, Celica and company explore the Thabean ruins after crossing the seas to Archanea. On the tenth basement floor, they encounter a fell dragon known as "The Creation". This fell dragon is thought to either be a prototype version of Grima or just Grima in a weakened state.

Personality

Grima is defined by its desire to end humanity. It is completely convinced its goal is inevitable, believing Robin has no way of regaining control of their body in The Future Past and claiming the bonds of the Shepherds would never be enough to overcome Grima's will.

However, Grima does not let its faith in its plan stop it from action. Grima was shown reviving Validar after Lucina foiled his assassination attempt on Emmeryn, and takes Robin's place at the Dragon's Table when the Grimleal are unable to sacrifice Robin.
