Appearance(s)

What! Do you mean to defy my orders?! I see... I see. As I suspected, it was YOUR doing. The person who kidnapped Grust's prince and princess was the mercenary, Ogma. On your orders, no less!
— Lang

Lang (Japanese: ラング Lang) is the Archanean leader of the Grustian Occupation Army and the first major antagonist to appear in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem Book 2 and its remake, New Mystery of the Emblem. Lang is a man known to use his influence to steal goods, daughters, and even lives from the people of Grust.

Lang first appears in Chapter 1, where, under the pretense of a continuing alliance between Archanea and Altea, Lang tasks Marth and his army into taking out Lorenz, who according to Lang is leading a rebellion, and turn Prince Jubelo and Princess Yuliya over to him. After Jubelo and Yuliya manage to escape with Ogma, Lang appears at the end of Chapter 3 to again task Marth into the royals' recovery, only this time to have Marth refuse and eventually have Marth and his army branded traitors by the time Chapter 4 rolls around, with Lang having ordered an invasion of Altea, an ordeal that saw Elice captured and Caeda barely escaping.

Lang appears as the boss of Chapter 6, where Marth and his army have managed to infiltrate his stronghold of Olbern Keep, where, anticipating reinforcements, plans to trap them in a pincer attack; he orders someone who he thinks is Navarre to make a move upon Marth's army opening a certain door. Nonetheless, Lang's plans fail and he ends up defeated.

Battle quotes

Please... Please wait. I'm sorry... Please forgive me... I was just following the Emperor's orders. I also hate what I have done, but I had no choice. So... So... Please... Help me... Please just let me explain. Yes... That’s right... Like that... You let your guard down... Idiot... Die!!
— Lang, in Mystery of the Emblem.
W-wait, please! I'm sorry... Please forgive me... I've only done as the Emperor ordered me to. I didn't agree with him, but I had no choice. So... so please, s-spare my life... I'll do anything you say. Yes... Just like this... Mwahaha! You shouldn't have let your guard down! You fool... Now die!
— Lang, in New Mystery of the Emblem.
Marth: General Lang, I have–with my own eyes–witnessed a number of your crimes. I cannot forgive you. But if you have something to say, I will listen.
Lang: S-silence... silence! You damned country-boy prince! You're a fool for coming here! Just die already!
Marth: Is that your answer? Then prepare yourself!

— Lang, when fighting Marth in New Mystery of the Emblem.
Lang: Y-you! You're that impertinent little [boy/girl] from before...!
Kris: Lang! You have oppressed countless people, and insulted my liege. You can only atone for these sins with your life!
Lang: W... Why you!

— Lang, when fighting Kris in New Mystery of the Emblem.

Trivia

  • Lang has an unused lime green palette in Mystery of the Emblem as opposed to his regular green palette, which is shared with Emereus.
  • Lang is assigned to use grey hair in his sprites in New Mystery of the Emblem, but this cannot be seen as the General sprites do not display hair color.
