Land of Sorrow

Land of Sorrow (Japanese: 悲しみの大地・グラ Gra, Land of Sorrow) is the fourteenth chapter in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the eleventh chapter in Book I of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.
Plot
- Main article: Land of Sorrow (Shadow Dragon)/Script
As Marth and his men descend upon Gra Bastion, King Jiol requests reinforcements from Dolhr, but is disappointed and horrified to learn he is only receiving Macedonian pegasus knights. His fears prove to be well-founded, and Marth cuts down Jiol and avenges his father's death. In the aftermath, Marth cannot find Falchion. Malledus reports that Gharnef is currently in possession of the holy blade, and Marth reluctantly elects to pursue him to Khadein to retrieve it.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Chapter Overview:
- New Units: You'll recruit Pegasus Knights Palla and Catria. Their initial stats may seem weak for their join time, but their growth rates are promising. The upcoming chapter offers a good opportunity for leveling them up.
- Weapon Upgrades: With 16,450G, you can upgrade Beck's Thunderbolt from the last chapter, adding +8 Might and +20 Hit. This ensures a one-shot kill on any enemy Ballistician.
Strategy and Priorities:
- Immediate Threats: At the start, focus on eliminating the nearby enemy Ballistician and the Fortify Curate to the west using artillery.
- Map Navigation: If you have a Thief or the necessary key, you can unlock the drawbridge and head south. Otherwise, move west around the fort. Marth and a few guards should opt for the western route to visit a village containing a Thoron tome.
- Thieves Alert: Thieves will target the treasure in the map's southern part. Intercept them by turn 9 to safeguard your Bullion. The main treasure in this area is the Silver Card, granting a 50% discount at shops.
- Western Spawns: Pegasus Knights will emerge from the map's west side. Your Generals can handle them efficiently.
- Boss Battle: Jiol is the chapter boss, a standard General. Mages can tackle him, but for a stylish finish, let Marth defeat him.
