Appearance(s)

Marisha (Japanese: マリーシア Malliesia) is a cleric that first appears in Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem and appears again in its DS remake. She is Lena's pupil, and thus is able to wield the Hammerne staff.[1]

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Book 2

Role

Marisha is found in a village during Marth's expedition in Grust. Her grandmother claimed she was only ten years old to protect her from being taken by Lang and his men, but she actually has come of age. After finding out Marth wasn't one of Lang's men, her grandmother offers her to Marth as his bride, but Marisha says it's far too early and that she doesn't know what to do. Marisha continued to accompany Marth throughout the War of Heroes. She trained under Lena as a cleric prior to the war.

After Medeus's defeat, she gets upset that Tiki is getting all of Marth's attention, and claims that Caeda won't forgive her if she shows even the slightest happiness, which Caeda writes off as nonsense.

Marisha is the only character in the game capable of wielding the Thief staff, and effectively fills Lena's place as wielder of the Hammerne in Book 2.

In Mystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Marisha joins Marth's army in Chapter 1 and remains available throughout the game. She stands out as the only unit in Mystery of the Emblem Book 2 who can use the Hammerne staff for the majority of the book, as it is a personal weapon. It can also be used by Lena, but she joins the army at the very end of the game in Book 2, so Marisha will have exclusive access to it for as long as it matters. The staff can be obtained quite early in Book 2—it is available in Chapter 5, so Marisha will be able to start repairing weapons quickly. She also has exclusive access to the Thief staff, since it is another personal weapon. The player can obtain it in Chapter 9; it is carried by one of the enemy Thieves. Once it is obtained, Marisha can open chests with it from a distance, further increasing her utility since no other unit can use the staff and it has infinite range.

Marisha's base weapon level is good enough to use the Warp staff—another utility aspect Marisha has with no investment, although the Warp staff in Book 2 only becomes available in Chapter 14. Her weapon level also has a very high growth, so leveling her up will allow her to use better staves quite quickly. There are many useful staves in Mystery of the Emblem, including Physic, Fortify, and Barrier, so training Marisha to use them is useful.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Marisha will be the first staff user to join your army, besides Wrys in the prologue, and thus will be extremely useful in her joining chapter by providing support through healing. Marisha joins with a impressive C rank in staves, allowing her to use staves such as Mend, Warp (on difficulties below Lunatic) and Barrier at base, as well as likely being your first user of the Anew and Fortify staves. This is without mentioning how she's the only user of the Hammerne staff, besides Lena who joins in the last chapter of the game, letting her repair useful weapons and staves. Her bases are rather low in every area besides luck, but her growths are rather decent. She will not be able to fight enemies well, because of her low defense and HP meaning that she's best kept from the frontlines. She has a wide array of reclassing options, but Cleric is considered her best one. If trained to a high level, her strong growths in Magic, Speed, and Resistance make her a viable option against Gharnef.

Overall, Marisha is the best staff user in the game, providing invaluable utility from the beginning and right to the end. She does face some competition from Yuliya who also joins with C staves, but because of her better availability and higher magic growth she is considered the superior unit. Because of her many contributions Marisha is often considered to be one of the best units in the game.
