Long time no see, Prince. Cord already joined with you's guys, right? We Talysian mercenaries wanted to join you's army, so we came all the way here. Princess Caeda's our lady, and the guy who's gonna be her man is important to us too.
— Bord

Bord (Japanese: サジ Saji) is a fighter in the Fire Emblem series, being a member of Ogma's mercenary group.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Bord is a Talysian mercenary serving under Ogma alongside his comrades Barst and Cord. The four are sent by King Mostyn of Talys to join Marth when he arrives in Galder, and serve under him for the rest of the War of Shadows.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord joins in Chapter 2 alongside the only other 3 axe users—Barst, Cord, and Darros—and Bord is outclassed in almost every way by Barst. Barst has higher base stats in every stat except for resistance; higher growths in weapon level, speed, and luck; equal growths in strength, skill, defense, and resistance; and only has a disadvantage in HP. Bord's viability compared to the other axe users is more debatable; Bord has a higher base weapon level than Cord, allowing him to use the Hammer and Devil Axe—which Cord cannot—as well as a higher base strength and growth rate, and higher skill and defense stats. However Cord has 2 more base speed and a 30% higher speed growth, as well as better base skill and luck, and higher growths in HP, luck, and weapon level—notably, his weapon level growth means he can eventually use the Hammer and Devil Axe. Compared with Darros, Bord has better base strength and skill and better growths in skill, luck, and defense; while Darros has slightly better base HP and weapon level and the unique ability to walk on water. Unfortunately, Bord falls victim to the same detriments all the axe users have, namely mediocre movement and the inability to promote. These flaws mean that Bord can't really hold his own compared with the best units in this game, and it is hard to recommend deploying him over Barst, or even alongside Barst. However, if Barst dies, or you lose many of your good units, Bord can be a decent replacement, and he offers decent utility in the early-game.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Book 1

Role

Bord reprises his role from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, appearing with Captain Ogma, Cord, and Barst at the request of King Mostyn.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Bord's base stats are generally unimpressive. While his strength and HP growths are good, his speed growth is 10%, which means that he is unlikely to grow significantly beyond his base speed; his base speed is high enough to avoid getting doubled by some enemies, but he will quickly start getting doubled and one-rounded, especially on higher difficulties.

Bord's only saving grace is his base C rank in axes. It allows him to use the Hammer at base, with which he can deal high effective damage and kill Knights. Axes are a good weapon type to be locked into because they have weapon triangle advantage over the abundance of enemy lance units past the early-game; they are also alright in the early-game because most enemy units use axes, so there is no weapon triangle disadvantage.

However, overall, Bord is a very unimpressive unit. His only utility is his base C rank in axes, which allows him to use the Hammer, but Barst will have much better stats and he can reach C rank axes relatively quickly. Bord's speed will never grow much, and he will start getting doubled and one-rounded quickly, at which point he is a liability and should be benched. There is some usefulness he can have for a short time after he joins, but after a few chapters, using him will become more trouble than it is worth.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

As one of the characters appearing in Book 1 but not Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, Bord was re-added to New Mystery of the Emblem. He appears when Marth visits a village during the freeing of Macedon, at which point he joins his forces for the rest of the game.

As with a number of other characters in New Mystery of the Emblem, there is a unique shared weapon named for Bord and Cord available through Everyone's Conditions: Bordcord Axe.
