“ | I’m built tough, you know. A little too much is just enough for me. | ” | — Hector, to Eliwood. |
---|
Hector (Japanese: ヘクトル Hector) is a character who appears in both Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. In the first game, he is the marquess of Ostia, a city in the country of Lycia on the continent of Elibe. He is the father of Lilina, a young girl who aids Roy in his journey. He is not a playable character, but he can be playable as a general on the Trial Maps after finishing the whole story three times.
In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the prequel to The Binding Blade, he is the seventeen-year-old[1] friend of Eliwood and the younger brother of Uther, the current marquess of Ostia. This makes his age in The Binding Blade 37. In this game, he has the Lord class, as he is a main character. He first appears in a house in Chapter 7 of Lyn's tale, in which he says Eliwood is late for their regular sparring. Later, he appears in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's route, in which he arrives from Ostia to help Eliwood find his father. Alternatively, in Hector's route, he appears in Chapter 11, in which he is sneaking out of Ostia to find Eliwood. Afterwards, in both routes, he leads the army throughout the rest of the game.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
Hector is the leader of the Lycian League Army, Marquess Ostia, and the leader of the Lycian League. He is the father of Lilina and is friends with Eliwood. He and his army is overtaken at a base on the border of Lycia early on in the game, though Roy does rescue him. Hector survives the torture, but sustains major wounds and dies after the battle. He gives Roy the order to lead the Lycian League Army.
After hearing the news, Lilina is deeply upset, but she knows she must stay strong.
Hector is playable on the trial maps after beating the game three times. He is a general.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Role
As The Blazing Blade is a prequel to The Binding Blade, this game has Hector as a teenager twenty years before the events of The Binding Blade. In this game, Hector is Eliwood's friend, who helps him on his quest to defeat Nergal. He first appears in Chapter 7 of Lyn's tale in a house, saying that Eliwood is late for their monthly sparring match. (Although Hector says that he spars with Eliwood once a month in this chapter, their C-support says that they spar once every two months.)
He then appears in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's tale from the north to help Eliwood defeat some bandits. He accompanies Eliwood to help him find his missing father Elbert. However, after they find that Elbert is dead, their journey's focus switches to defeating the Black Fang, a mysterious organization whose leader killed Eliwood's father. Hector, Eliwood, and Lyn lead their forces together to defeat Nergal, the leader of the Black Fang.
In Hector's tale, Hector is the main character. In his version of Chapter 11, he escapes from the castle of Ostia from his older brother Uther, the marquess, to go find his friend Eliwood. He then finds Eliwood at the same place in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's route. The story is largely the same, but Hector is the primary main character instead of Eliwood. Additionally, he goes to several more places than Eliwood.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Hector is widely considered to be the best of the three lord units in The Blazing Blade. This is mainly due to two reasons. First, Hector can wield axes, giving him access to Hand Axes and the ability to attack at range, a feat both Eliwood and Lyn are incapable of for most of the game. He also enjoys weapon triangle advantage against lances, allowing him to easily dispose of the Cavaliers, Soldiers, and Pegasus Knights that are very common in the early game.
Second, Hector's stats are much more well-optimized than those of his fellow Lords. While Eliwood often struggles to be impressive in any category due to his balanced growths and Lyn is dangerously frail for the whole game, Hector's emphasis on HP, Strength, and Defense provide him with the highest damage output and durability of the three. Hector's Speed is meant to be his weakness, but enemies in FE7 typically weigh themselves down to the point that Hector has no trouble doubling them. Likewise, his low Resistance means Hector must be wary of mages, but he can still deal with them better than the other two lords due to his ability to counterattack at range.
Upon promoting, Hector gains the ability to use swords. In Eliwood's story, he will have more time to raise his weapon level and can be a good candidate for wielding the game's heavier swords thanks to his excellent Constitution. In Hector's own story, he will promote very late and will not have much time to raise his sword rank. On Hector Hard Mode, Ch. 32x contains a great number of Berserkers that Hector can wield swords against to grind his sword rank if the player desires. Ultimately though, Hector is perfectly well-off only wielding axes.
While strong, Hector still shares the weaknesses most lord units have. Even in Eliwood's story, Hector cannot promote until a little more than halfway through the game (at the earliest), and in his own story he cannot promote until very late. Furthermore, even upon promoting Hector remains an infantry unit locked to 5 movement, putting him behind almost every other unit. Hector is also very heavy, and most units that Rescue-Drop him across the map will take penalties for doing so.
Overall, Hector is a tremendous combat unit and stands out from most lords in the series. While noticeably held back by his late promotion and low movement, he is still more than capable of taking care of himself at any point in the game.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Hector is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Fire Emblem character set. Along with Sigurd and Eliwood, Hector is one of three lord characters to not have a paid DLC version of himself available. Hector is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.
As with several other legacy characters in Awakening, there is a unique weapon named for Hector available through the Barracks or event tiles: Hector's Axe.

Personality and character
Hector has a quite reckless personality, which shows in many of his conversations. He is never afraid to speak his mind, and often can be quite blunt because of this. However, he still cares greatly for the others, such as when he tells Florina not to cry[4], or when he tells Serra that he will be her family.[5] He is quite enthusiastic about fighting and sparring, [1] He trains very hard with to improve his axefighting skills. Hector lets his emotions get the best of him at times; for example, when Leila is killed, he vows to destroy all of the Black Fang, since he doesn't know who killed her.[6]
In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Hector is the younger brother of Uther, the current marquess of Ostia. He is a close friend of Eliwood, the son of Elbert, the marquess of Pherae. Oswin, an armored knight, and Matthew, a spy, are two fighters from Ostia ordered by Uther to help him; Hector considers them close friends. His parents are dead from illness, which is why his brother is the current marquess. Twenty years later, in The Binding Blade, he has a daughter named Lilina. He vows to protect her until he dies, and early in the game, he is killed by Zephiel, the prince of Bern.
When Hector and Eliwood were young, they were with other young lords in a room waiting for their parents, who were pledging oaths. As a warrior's custom, he cut his hand and shook the hand of Eliwood, who had done the same. [7] He and Eliwood have been sparring every two months since they were twelve, with an almost-even record of wins and losses.[1] They are in disagreement over the win and loss records, but they have had either 30 or 31 matches, meaning that they are probably seventeen years old.
