Gungnir (Japanese: グングニル Gungnir), sometimes known by the epithet "Lance of the Heavens" (Japanese: 天槍 sky lance),[1] is the lance once wielded by Dáinn of the Twelve Crusaders, bestowed upon him at the Miracle of Dahna after his blood pact with a dragon. The lance is the property of Dáinn's descendants, the royal family of the Kingdom of Thracia, and is restricted in use to those in possession of major Dáinn Holy Blood.
Along with the Helswath, Mjölnir and Valflame, Gungnir is one of the Crusader weapons completely inaccessible and unusable to the player in Genealogy of the Holy War; no bearer of Dáinn holy blood of any level is playable. It was not until Awakening that it became a playable weapon.
History
Gungnir was eventually inherited by King Travant of Thracia, who wielded it in his murder of Quan and Ethlyn as they pass through the Aed Desert, and throughout the rest of his life. During the clash between Thracia and Seliph's liberation army in Grann 777, Travant entrusted it to his son Arion before departing to challenge Seliph's army. After Travant's death, Arion wielded it first to continue his father's work in opposition of Seliph's forces before being convinced by Altena to, during Seliph's march on Grannvale, support Seliph's cause.
Millennia later, Gungnir came into the possession of the Grimleal, and was wielded by its reincarnation of the Deadlord Equus. By this time, it is no longer sealed to the Dáinn bloodline and is capable of being used by any lance-wielder with a high enough weapon level.
