Yurius (ユリウス) was the prince of the Grandbell Empire, the son of Emperor Alvis and Diadora, the twin brother of Yuria, and the half-brother of Seliph (via Diadora) and Cyas (via Alvis). He was the product of the extensive schemes of Manfroy of the Lopt Sect, to create a living vessel to reincarnate the Dark God Loptous by breeding a child bearing full Loptous Holy Blood from the bloodline's two living minor carriers, the half-siblings Alvis and Diadora.

Yurius and Yuria were born some time after the Battle of Barhara and the formation of the Grandbell Empire. In his youth, Manfroy came to give the Loptous tome to Yurius, and as soon as he touched it, he was corrupted by the spirit of Loptous and attempted to kill his Naga-blooded twin, instead killing Diadora while she warped Yuria away from Grandbell. From there, Yurius wrested control of the empire from his father and twisted it into a brutal regime, reintroducing the child hunts, giving members of the Lopt Sect positions of power in the Empire, all paving the way for Loptous himself to eventually take full possession of him and, by extension, of the Empire and from there resurrect the ancient Lopt Empire.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Role

During her father's last stand at Conote, Yurius warped in to collect Ishtar and take her back to Barhara, not wanting to unnecessarily lose her in the Manster District.

Later, at Chronos Castle in Miletos, Yurius and Ishtar were present overseeing the child hunt in the region. They departed for Miletos Castle at Hilda's request to prepare to take the captive children back to Barhara, where Alvis soon arrived, seeking to assist Ishtar in releasing the captive children; Yurius fiercely rebuked Alvis for daring to interfere with his control. Manfroy then turned up, bringing news of the captive Yuria and how she had recovered her memories of his actions. Despite wanting to have Yuria killed, Yurius nonetheless allowed Manfroy to proceed with putting her to use. Before leaving for the capital, he and Ishtar decided to play a game: who could kill a member of Seliph's liberation army first, departing after one of the two won or died.

At Velthomer Castle, Yurius had an audience with the captive Yuria, briefly informing her of what caused the change in him and that she, a bearer of the Naga bloodline, must be killed. At Manfroy's request, Yurius allowed her to be brainwashed into serving Manfroy before departing for Barhara. At the capital, he reluctantly allowed Ishtar to depart for the battle against Seliph's impending forces, where she would meet her doom, convened the newly-recreated Dark Warlords around Barhara, and had the order to attack sent to Areone's mercenaries. By this time, Loptous had concluded his descent into Yurius and was revived and in complete possession of him. In spite of his wishes, Yuria had been freed from Manfroy's influence and obtained the Naga tome from Velthomer, whereupon she used it to confront him in battle, negating the crippling effect the Loptous tome had on enemies. Cursing Manfroy's erroneous judgement, Yurius engaged her and Seliph's army in direct combat, and was killed; with his dying breath, he (or Loptous) cursed Naga for interfering with his plans once again and swore to Seliph that, so long as men remained greedy, he would one day return.

Chapter 10 Final Chapter

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

During Leaf's escape from the prison in Manster, Yurius was present in a room in the centre of the complex. There, he and Manfroy were conferring with Veld, the Lopt Sect bishop in charge of Thracia's north, on the proceedings of the child hunts of the region. The three questioned Ishtar about her family's reluctance to forcibly storm the city of Tahra to begin the hunt there, and when Ishtar raised her family's concerns about the immorality of the hunts, Yurius attempted to assauge her concerns before taking her away from the conference to observe the flower garden of the complex's yard.

Around the time that Leaf's army is marching on Lenster's eastern gate, Yurius came down with a severe fever and was hospitalised in Ishtar's quarters in Conote. Refusing to have him attended by Lopt Sect bishops, Ishtar travelled to Lenster to find Cyas, to come and help heal Yurius. After the fall of Fort Danzich and Leaf's army's subsequent escape from being cornered there, Yurius and Ishtar arrived, whereupon he expressed his disappointment with the performance of Freege's forces. Rather than letting Ishtar go to Conote to assiste her father, he instead then took her to Miletos at the behest of Hilda, after warning her to not see Reinhardt again on pain of his death.

Personality and character

Nothing is known of Yurius's persona prior to his corruption by Loptous. Yuria implied that before then, Yurius was at least a decent child and that the two held a standard good sibling relationship.[1] His persona from then onward appears to be based on his own with his sense of self retained, as Loptous's possession of him was apparently not complete until shortly before his death[2], but strongly influenced by the malevolent whims of Loptous's influence on him. In this state, he was a highly charismatic figure, masking a cold exterior apathetic of the needs of others (except perhaps Ishtar), possessing immense cruelty, favouring abusing those in opposition to or of lesser power than him including his own father, and of having no tolerance for events not proceeding according to his desires[3]. He showed no hesitation in the idea of killing his own sister or mother, reluctant to follow through on Manfroy's plan which required Yuria to continue to live and seeing his mother as a nuisance years after her death; here, he may have been spurred on by Loptous's emnity for Naga, whose major holy blood was borne by both Diadora and Yuria. Yurius appeared to have a twisted view of the nature of his actions, seemingly legitimately believing that the misery caused by such endeavours as the child hunts is for the good of all involved and for society as a whole; that, or he had no compunction with effortlessly spinning lies on the matter to persuade the reluctant. [4]

On one hand, he showed a far more human side in his dealings with his girlfriend Ishtar, for whom he seemed to have legitimate feelings and for whom he happily discussed the human trivialties of buying expensive clothing and accessories to attend a party held by her mother[5]; on the other hand, he had absolutely no tolerance for the idea of his relationship with her being even potentially jeopardized, and casually threatened to kill Reinhardt because of his suspicions of his potential interference in Ishtar's relationship with him.

It is implied that in his childhood, Yurius had a problem with consistent illness, and that since Loptous began influencing him the severity and frequency of his illnesses had been steadily increasing.[6]
