Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd (pronounced /dɪ'mitɹi ɑlɛɡ'zɑnd͡ʒɹə 'bleɪθɪd/[key]; Japanese: ディミトリ=アレクサンドル=ブレーダッド Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd) is one of the three main characters, alongside Edelgard and Claude,[2] appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is the prince of the Kingdom of Faerghus and the leader of the Blue Lions house at the Officers Academy.
Biography
Dimitri is the crown prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. In Imperial Year 1171, Dimitri's maternal stepsister Princess Edelgard of the Adrestian Empire came to Faerghus with her uncle, Lord Arundel, and the two became fast friends. When she returned to the Empire in 1174, he gave her a dagger as a parting gift. In 1176, he was the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, in which his father King Lambert and many of his knights and friends were murdered, allegedly by assassins from the Duscur region. This incident permanently warped the young prince, leaving him with a deep-seated grudge against the perpetrators and a hidden capacity for extreme violence, although he always suspected that the people of Duscur had been scapegoated. In the aftermath of the Tragedy, he saved a young Duscur commoner named Dedue from being lynched, leading him to develop an extremely strong sense of loyalty towards Dimitri.
In 1180, Dimitri enrolled at the Officer's Academy at Garreg Mach Monastery along with several of his friends and people from his kingdom. Around this time, a mercenary named Byleth rescued him from bandits hired by a mysterious masked individual calling themself the Flame Emperor. Byleth was rewarded with a teaching post at the Officer's Academy, and their choice of which house to lead would have far-reaching consequences for all of Fódlan.
In all routes, Dimitri spends the next year studying at the Officer's Academy along with the Blue Lions. Eventually, the Flame Emperor is unmasked as Edelgard, and she assumes the Adrestian throne and declares war on the Church of Seiros in order to destroy the Crest system she believes is stagnating the world. Edelgard launches a full-scale invasion of Garreg Mach Monastery and Dimitri fights alongside the Church, but the monastery is overrun and Byleth goes missing.
Black Eagles
If Byleth chooses to lead the Black Eagles and remains loyal to Edelgard after she is revealed to be the Flame Emperor, Dimitri returns to Faerghus and formally takes the throne as king. He provides Rhea and the remaining Knights of Seiros asylum as they do battle with Edelgard and the Empire over the next five years. Eventually, Byleth returns and decisively tips the scale of the war in favor of the Empire. Dimitri personally intercepts Edelgard and her elite soldiers at the Tailtean Plains, but he is defeated in battle and dies blaming Edelgard for the Tragedy of Duscur.
Church of Seiros
Blue Lions
If Byleth chooses to lead the Blue Lions, Dimitri and his classmates become their pupils. Dimitri accompanies Byleth directly throughout their time teaching at the Officer's Academy. As the school year progresses, Dimitri's hidden rage begins to surface, and he comes to hold the belief that the Flame Emperor orchestrated the Tragedy of Duscur. Eventually, when Edelgard is revealed to be the Flame Emperor, the revelation of her actions coupled with his continued belief that she caused the Tragedy of Duscur cause Dimitri to suffer a total psychotic breakdown, and he vows to kill Edelgard with his own two hands.
After the fall of Garreg Mach, Rhea vanishes and Dimitri returns to Faerghus. However, the mage Cornelia frames him for the murder of his regent and uncle Rufus, and he only escapes when Dedue sacrifices himself and is presumably executed in his stead. Believing all of his friends and family dead, Dimitri spends the next five years living as a vagrant in the Garreg Mach region and mercilessly slaughtering Imperial soldiers and bandits, and his mental state continues to deteriorate until he becomes completely obsessed with revenge on Edelgard. Eventually, Byleth returns the day before the millennium festival and reunites with Dimitri and the rest of the former Blue Lions. The two begin a full-scale war against Adrestia, using Garreg Mach Monastery as a base of operations. After killing an Adrestian general named Randolph tasked with retaking the monastery, Dimitri receives allies and the Heroes' Relic Areadbhar from Duke Rodrigue Fraldarius and launches a counterinvasion of the Empire, unconcerned about the people of Faerghus suffering under Imperial tyranny. At the Field of Gronder, he engages both the Empire and the Leicester Alliance in a three-way battle and emerges victorious, but Randolph's younger sister Fleche attempts to assassinate him in revenge for Randolph's death. Rodrigue sacrifices himself to save Dimitri, causing him to realize what a horrible ruler and person he has been and resolve to atone for his sins.
Dimitri returns to the Kingdom capital of Fhirdiad and kills Cornelia, who implicates his stepmother Patricia in the Tragedy of Duscur before perishing. With the Kingdom back under his control, Dimitri reinforces battered Leicester forces and kills Lord Arundel. In the aftermath, Alliance leader Claude unexpectedly gifts him his Relic bow Failnaught, disbands the Alliance, cedes the right to govern its subjects to Dimitri, reveals that Rhea is being held prisoner in the Imperial capital of Enbarr, and departs from Fódlan. With the combined forces of Faerghus and the former Alliance at his back, Dimitri launches a proper invasion of the Empire. As his forces approach Enbarr, Dimitri attempts to parley with Edelgard and learn her motivations for starting a world war, but the two conclude that their ideas of justice cannot be resolved diplomatically and they must fight for the future of Fódlan. Dimitri besieges Enbarr and defeats Edelgard in a climactic final battle. Afterwards, he makes one final attempt to reconcile with her, but she throws his old dagger into his shoulder, forcing him to execute her. In the aftermath, Rhea is rescued and retires from her role as Archbishop, and Byleth succeeds her. Dimitri is crowned the ruler of a united Fódlan under Faerghus' banner.

Personality and character

On the surface, Dimitri is a chivalrous young man who is loyal to his friends and kind to his subjects. Underneath, though, he holds great bitterness over the Tragedy of Duscur four years prior, which led to the deaths of his parents and many of his soldiers. The trauma over that incident has left Dimitri with a burning desire for vengeance and a deeply hidden capacity for extreme hatred, violence, and self-loathing that he actively tries to keep suppressed. The revelation of his beloved and trusted stepsister Edelgard's actions as the Flame Emperor and her subsequent betrayal and declaration of war against the Church of Seiros start to tear away at his kind heart, and the presumed deaths of Byleth and Dedue and the five years he spends as a vagrant reduce him to an antisocial, vengeful madman bent on killing Edelgard as painfully as possible without any regard for his own safety or responsibilities as king. In the Blue Lions route, the return of Byleth and Dedue and the death of Rodrigue snap him out of his hatred and cause him to decide to let go of his past and atone for his sins, returning him to the chivalrous man he was in his school days.
Supports
Dimitri cannot grow his supports from Chapters 13 through 17 due to being consumed by his hatred of Edelgard.

Dimitri, Savior King
After his coronation, Dimitri spent his life reforming and ruling justly over Fódlan. He focused particularly on improving living situations for orphans and improving foreign relations. He was known for listening intently to the voices of all, and for instituting a new form of government in which the people were free to be active participants. He lived for his people and alongside them, and was thusly dubbed the Savior King.
Dimitri, Savior King & Byleth, Guardian of Order
Paired with the end of the war, the joyous marriage of Byleth, the newly-appointed archbishop, and Dimitri, the newly-crowned king of Faerghus, gave the people of Fódlan much to celebrate. The two were devoted to improving life for the people and to seeking greater wisdom in order to reform the government and the church from the inside out. As leaders of church and state respectively, at times they engaged in heated debate. Even still, when enjoying a long horse ride or a quiet evening, they were not as the world saw them, but rather two adoring spouses, desperately in love. They remained as such for the rest of their days.
Dimitri, Savior King & Dedue, Taciturn Devotee
After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and his loyal vassal, Dedue, remained ever at his side. Among Dimitri's achievements was the reconciliation with Duscur: an extraordinary effort that required extensive negotiations to get past a history of betrayal and oppression. It was a trying task, but Dimitri never once considered giving up. While they behaved as lord and vassal in public, it is said that Dimitri and Dedue were more like family in private. When Dimitri finally fell to illness, Dedue tended to his liege's deathbed, and then took up a post at his grave for the rest of his days. When the time came, they were buried beside each other.
Dimitri, Savior King & Felix, The Shield's Successor
After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and spend his life ruling justly over Fódlan. At his side every step of the way was his right-hand adviser, Duke Felix Fraldarius. Their lifelong bond grew so strong over time that, when Dimitri finally passed, it is said that Felix's grief was more potent even than the queen's. The stories of their lives were passed down to future generations as chivalric tales that rivaled those of Loog, the King of Lions, and his sworn friend, Kyphon.
Dimitri, Savior King & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and spent his life ruling justly over Fódlan. At his side every step of the way was Ingrid, who left House Galatea to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. As they worked together to restore the Kingdom, the pair fell in love and were eventually married. But while Ingrid was happy to play the role of queen, and to support her husband in public and in private, she insisted on taking up a weapon and serving on the front lines in battle.
Dimitri, Savior King & Catherine, Free Knight
Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and spent his life ruling justly over Fódlan. Two years after his coronation, he announced his marriage to Catherine. The people speculated wildly about how this union came to be. Some said that Dimitri spent two full years wooing her, while others suggested that the matter was resolved by a duel. In any case, the couple worked tirelessly to reform the Kingdom, but despite their busy days, it is said that they always found time for sparring, and that the clash of steel could be heart throughout the castle at all hours.

Trivia
- As the boss of Crimson Flower Chapter 17, Dimitri's map sprite depicts him with an eyepatch despite the fact that he does not lose the use of his right eye on the Crimson Flower route.
- As a Lord in Part I, the eyes on Dimitri's sprite will change color to match those of his current affiliation—blue as a player unit, red as an enemy, yellow as a third army enemy. This quirk is not present for Edelgard or Claude, or even for Dimitri's Part II sprites.

Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd |
Full name, known by just Dimitri in most menus. Dimitri is a corruption of a Russian name meaning "follower of Demeter". Alexandre is the French/Portuguese form of Alexander, a Greek name meaning "defender of the people". Blaiddyd is a location in Fódlan, but its name is from Bladud (Welsh: Blaiddyd), a king of the Britons in legend. |
