“ | That doesn't matter! If we don't do something, we'll always have to live in fear of Lifis. I just can't take it any more! | ” | — Ronan |
---|
Ronan (Japanese: ロナン Ronan) is a playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is a fisherman from Iz, a coastal Thracian village. He has taken up the bow to fight against Lifis's pirates.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Ronan joins the Fiana Freeblades with the goal of wiping out Lifis and his bandits, who have attacked the village of Iz. He does this despite never having entered battle before.[2]
Ronan accompanies Leif's liberation army until at least the liberation of Munster. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's is unknown, as he does not appear in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

As with most of the rest of Leif's party, Ronan is forced to temporarily leave after Chapter 3, if he is still alive and has not been captured at that point. He automatically rejoins the party at the beginning of Chapter 8.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Ronan is your second archer, and also one of the strangest units in the game. He has a respectable speed base and high skill and speed growths. However, his strength growth is extremely low, at a mere 15%, while his magic growth is unusually high at 55%. Unfortunately, his high magic is mostly useless with its only utility being that it can help him take better hits from mages. Ronan's poor strength growth, low strength base, and unimpressive FCM means he will have trouble reliably killing enemies. Furthermore, he is bowlocked, which means he cannot counter enemies at 1 range or capture enemies. Because of this, he is arguably one of the worst combat units in the game.
Still, Ronan does have some redeemable qualities in combat. He has the Adept skill, which gives him a chance to attack consecutively, as well as a relatively high number of movement stars at 3. Ronan will also have slightly better base stats than Tanya when you recruit him. This makes him useful for doing chip damage in the earlygame chapters to help units such as Leif get kills.
Aside from this, Ronan has a high movement base of 7 and 3 action stars, giving him a 15% chance to take a second turn. This makes him useful in indoor chapters where a unit with high movement can quickly rescue characters or grab chests, such as in Chapter 3 or Chapter 24. If the player decides to deploy him for his movement abilities, they should be careful to keep him out of harm's way, as his bad HP and Defense means he can be easily killed by enemies.
If the player is willing to use Ronan as a combat unit, they may give him scrolls that improve his strength, like the Hoðr scroll. Unfortunately, the Njörun scroll, which would benefit him the most, comes far too late to be of any use.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Ronan is one of the characters added to the game in the Forest of the Sage update, and became available for summoning by players on January 8, 2021. Only one variation of Ronan is currently available in Heroes, based on his Thracia 776 incarnation; he notably brings blue bows into the normal summoning pool, a weapon type not available in the game at its initial launch and previously exclusive to time-limited units and the Grand Hero Battle unit Jorge, and the last of the three types of colored bows to become part of the normal summoning pool.

Personality and character
Ronan is polite and friendly, capable of getting along with anyone. His first thought upon visiting Askr in Heroes is to help people in need.[3] He is a skilled hunter and uses it to make people's lives easier.[4] While Ronan does kill animals, he believes humans must coexist with nature, so he never kills too many.[5]
Ronan strongly believes in taking action and always volunteers to do what is necessary. This leads to his recruitment in Thracia 776, and he expresses the sentiment many times in Heroes.[6] Ronan has learned in the bandit raid on Iz that inaction achieves nothing—if Ronan stood aside, his village would be in peril.
Ronan lacks faith in nobility, but seldom shows open hostility. He does not believe nobles are kind-hearted and generous, and doubts they would do much for common people; Leif is the only noble Ronan finds approachable and trustworthy. However, his encounters with nobles in Heroes are positive, lifting his impression of the nobility.[7] Ronan cares about the impression given by nobility, because he thinks nobles should set a good example for commoners. He claims that when nobles are righteous and lead by example, commoners including himself are able to do their best.[8]
Ronan has a strong connection to his mother and does many things to make her proud. She is the person Ronan cares about the most; he seeks her approval and wishes to protect her.[9]
In Thracia 776, Ronan has very few lines of dialogue, but he is frustrated with the raids of Lifis and his pirates enough to join the Fiana Freeblades; however, Ronan will not comment on Leif recruiting Lifis if it occurs.
