Galzus (Japanese: ガルザス Galzus) is the prince of House Ribaut in Isaach, a cousin of Prince Shannan of Isaach through his mother—the eldest child of King Mananan—and a full-blooded heir of the Crusader Od. During the Grannvale-Isaach war of Grann 757, Galzus fled Ribaut with his daughter Mareeta when King Mananan attacked Ribaut in retribution for the Ribaut attack on Dahna, and became a mercenary. He was separated from Mareeta and eventually entered the service of Duke Raydrik of Munster.
Biography
Early life
Before Ribaut's fall, Galzus's wife gave birth to their only child, Mareeta, but died soon after Mareeta was born.[1] When King Mananan launched his attack on Ribaut, Galzus fled with Mareeta. The two travelled together for some time, but were separated somewhere near Connacht, when Mareeta wandered off against Galzus's wishes and was snatched up by a slave trader. Despite his best efforts searching, Galzus was unable to find Mareeta and eventually gave up, believing she would be better off without somebody so murderous for a father.[2]
Munster
After losing Mareeta, Galzus worked as a mercenary, and eventually entered Raydrik's service in Munster. Under Raydrik's employment, Galzus worked as a guard at Munster Castle, and was tasked with pursuing Leif and the Magi as they fled imprisonment in the castle. He nonetheless secretly defied Raydrik to release Mareeta from her own imprisonment, entrusting her care to Saias while he remained in Raydrik's service, although he refused to explain his true motives for doing so to Saias.[3]
When Leif later returned, leading his liberation army to storm Munster, Galzus still acted as one of Raydrik's mercenaries. He was approached by Mareeta, who had experienced a dream during her possession which revealed his identity as her father. At her behest, he joined Leif's army to help save Eyvel, Mareeta's adoptive mother. Upon Leif's army's successful rescue of Eyvel, he met with her for the first time and entrusted her with continuing to take care of Mareeta, but at her request agreed to visit Fiana once a year to visit.[4]
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
In Chapter 5, if Chapter 4x was played, Galzus appears as an enemy unit. He appears in the arena after four of the arena enemies have been killed. Once Eyvel has been turned to stone, he will move to escape. In Chapter 6, Galzus appears as an enemy unit on turn 15.
In Chapter 24, Galzus appears as an enemy unit. He is recruited when talked to by Mareeta.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Galzus is the best combat unit in Thracia 776 next to Ced, with low availability as his only major drawback. He joins with capped strength, skill and speed, as well as an A-level in both swords and axes. Outside of that, Galzus has 7 movement, 3 FCM, Luna and Astra. This nearly guarantees Galzus will one-round anyone he faces, even if he is not using a strong weapon. Though he is good at dealing with most enemies, Galzus is not the most reliable unit against the final boss, Veld. Galzus cannot reliably one-round Veld due to his high 80 HP and 25 defense, and must instead rely on critical hits or skill activations; instead, Ced with Forseti is more reliable, as he is guaranteed a critical hit on his follow-up, and is only three points of magic away (suppliable with Magic Up or Pure Water) from a one-round.
Galzus also has impressive defenses. He has a massive 54 base HP, a solid 14 defense, and a decent 9 magic. Physical units tend to have a low magic stat, but Galzus's magic stat is salvageable. He may still be affected by status staves, which the player should be mindful of. However, using a Pure Water or Magic Up staff helps protect Galzus from their influence; if Galzus also equips a Flame Sword, he will have 21 magic on the first turn Magic Up or Pure Water is applied and 20 magic the turn after, giving him 2 turns of status staff immunity (discounting terrain-boosted casters due to magic floors) and exceptional magic beyond that.
Galzus also has a massive five action stars, giving him a 25% chance to move again when he completes a turn. The effect is unreliable, but Galzus has a better chance of activating it than most units. If he activates it, he can move fourteen spaces in a single turn, kill two enemies on player phase, and more. Since Galzus is so good at combat, there is no reason not to use him when he is available.

Personality
Galzus attempts to hide his emotions by establishing himself as stoic and distant, but he still cares about the people important to him and his family.[5] Despite the effort he put into trying to find Mareeta after her abduction by the slave traders, once he realized he was never going to do so, he came to believe Mareeta would be better off without having a murderous figure such as himself in her life.[2] Once he reunited with Mareeta and her adoptive mother, Eyvel, he felt it was best to leave Mareeta in Eyvel's care with the promise of visiting her in Fiana once per year at Eyvel's request.[4] According to Mareeta, she remembers Galzus prior to her separation from him as being gentle and kind in addition to his great strength.[6]
Endings
Galzus, Dark Blade of Od
After liberating Munster, Galzus disappeared. There are no records, legends, or even rumors about his life thereafter.

My daughter was very lucky to have found you... This is selfish of me, but... I think it'd be best if you were the one who watched over her after all this.
Eyvel: I agree. Mareeta is my daughter now—has been for years. I wouldn't let you take her away from me even if you wanted to.

Eyvel: Then before you leave, I have one last favor to ask, Galzus.
Galzus: Name it. If it's within my power, it will be done.
Eyvel: Once every year, would you visit us in Fiana? That's all I ask.
Galzus: ...... Very well... I will." — Galzus and Eyvel, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑ "I had half a mind to just leave, but I had to spare you a few words. I'm not much for talk, so...
