Shortly afterwards, Azura reveals to Corrin through a one-time-use crystal ball that Garon had died long ago, and that the current Garon is being possessed by "a demon" to spark the war between Nohr and Hoshido. Azura also tells him/her that in order to bring peace to the world, he/she must kill Garon and the only way for Corrin to prove this truth to Nohr is for "Garon" to sit on the magical throne of Hoshido's Castle Shirasagi, which will reveal his degenerated slime form. This means Garon and his army will have to conquer Hoshido in order to trick him into sitting on the throne and then killing him to end the war. Afterwords, Garon states that he wishes to discuss the Nohrians' next endeavor, Nohr and Hoshido will soon be engaged in an all-out war, the greater Nohrian army will set up base in Cyrkensia and immediately send troops to Hoshido, and states that they may be able to secure a early win if they catch the Hoshidan by surprise. “ | I desire only to rule Hoshido. I, and those who follow me, will do whatever it takes to achieve that. I don't care if the peons that fill our towns don’t trust us. They are nothing to me. Those who disobey will die. The rest will quickly learn. | ” | — Garon, to Corrin in Conquest |

Garon (Japanese: ガロン Garon) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. He is the primary antagonist in the Birthright route, a secondary antagonist in the Conquest route and a minor antagonist in the Revelation route. He is the ruler of Nohr. Like all other Nohrian and Hoshidan royalty, he possesses the power of Dragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.
Fire Emblem Fates
Role
Garon is an antagonistic figure in both routes of Fire Emblem Fates. However, the Garon present throughout the events of Fates is not the original. The original Garon was replaced by Anankos with a water Familiar, planted in Nohr to bring the country into conflict with Hoshido, spreading chaos and destruction. Garon's role is changed depending on the three paths.
Birthright
Corrin decides to fight for Hoshido, refusing to follow the man who orchestrated the death of many innocent lives, including their now departed mother. Despite their pleas to have Corrin return to Nohr, he/she remains steadfast in his/her decision as he/she declares that Garon is dead to him/her and he must be stop. Garon is not seen again until later on. When Corrin and the Hoshidan army arrives in Cyrkensia to begin their assault on Nohr, they learn that King Garon was at the Opera House in hopes of seeing the famed songstress Layla. Seeing this as an opportunity to kidnap the King, Corrin's forces have Zola disguise Azura as Layla in order to pull it off. Despite Azura's dance, which caused mild discomfort in King Garon, he reveals that he was aware of the Hoshidan Army's presence thanks to Zola. After Zola defects, he asks Garon to spare Corrin for the kindness they showed him. Garon views Zola's request as a sign of treason and executes him in front of the Hoshidan army and Elise, who was accompanying him and he makes his escape afterwords.
Garon send Iago to attack and kill Corrin and the Hoshidan army, but he fails and retreats. Later, Garon gives Iago the power to awaken Fort Dragonfall to trap and kill Corrin and the Hoshidans, but this fails as Azura's song frees them, foiling Iago's plan again. Afterwords, Garon is shown in his thoughts, sitting in his throne, and disappointed that Iago failed him yet again and plans to get rid of him soon, but he has a "Plan B" that will spring into action anytime now. He decides that Corrin simply will have to be disposed of. He then erupts into maniacal laughter. Later on, when the Hoshidan army breaks into Castle Krakenburg after killing Hans, he once again sends Iago after them to finish the job. Iago fails to kill them once more and he is subsequently executed by Leo for good. Corrin fights and kills Xander in a duel, leaving Garon with no one left to defend him.
After many trials and losses, Corrin reaches the throne room of Castle Krakenburg, and finally confronts Garon himself. Garon is "pleased" to see Corrin again, mocking him/her for making it this far. Garon tells Corrin that his family were all pawns for the war, angering Corrin, who is angered that Elise and Xander gave their lives to stop Corrin from killing Garon, yet he feels nothing at their deaths and Corrin declares Garon irredeemable and vows to kill him. However, when he/she tries to attack him, his/her Noble Yato is unable to penetrate his armor, and in retaliation, Garon launches several blows at them. Azura attempts to use her powers to weaken him, but Garon anticipates this and grabs her, threatening to kill her unless they listen to his demands. Ryoma negotiates with him, and he responds that it is a wise choice. Garon demands that Hoshido unconditionally surrender so its lands can be incorporated into Nohr, then states that he wishes to kill Ryoma. Garon sends a fireball at Ryoma, wounding him. Garon mocks Corrin if he/she will surrender to him, or fight and ensure the deaths of all his/her friends.
Suddenly, Ryoma's Raijinto reacts to Corrin's Noble Yato, empowering it into the Blazing Yato. Corrin decides to test the new Yato on Garon, and he screams in pain, as the new Yato was able to injure him. Angered by this, He calls upon his soldiers to kill Corrin and the Hoshidans, but they fail and the Hoshidans fight and defeat him. Garon, refusing to give up, transforms into the form of the Dusk Dragon and continues to fight, but is eventually defeated for good and killed by the Hoshidans. Before dying, he laments to Corrin that he was long dead before dissipating into water. Corrin speculates as to what exactly he means, but is unable to come to any conclusions. With the death of Garon, the war between Hoshido and Nohr ends.
Conquest
Much to the shock of the Hoshidan royal siblings, Corrin decides to fight for Nohr. With the death of Iago and Garon's loyalist, Corrin finally tells the siblings that the war isn't over yet and they must kill Garon to end it, telling them the real Garon is long dead and the Garon they know is actually a monster and all they can do is put him out of his misery.
Corrin and the Nohrians open the doors to the Castle Shirasagi's throne room, where they find Azura's claims to be correct as the throne has exposed Garon's true from as a slime monster, much to the siblings' shock. "Garon" curses Corrin for tricking him and attempts to kill everyone. Corrin attacks him. However, the Grim Yato is unable to hurt him, and in retaliation, Garon launches several blows at him/her. Azura tells the siblings to fight Garon, but they refuse because Garon is still their father despite knowing his true identity. Corrin begs them to put aside their disbelief and fight as he is not the real Garon, and all that remains of him is a monster. Garon taunts Corrin about turning his children against them and attempts to execute him/her, only for Xander to defend him/her. Xander calls out Garon, affirms him he is no longer his father, referring to his real father as stern, but fair, not using his strength against his children or starting a needless conquest of another kingdom, and accepts his real father is dead, and that the "Garon" he sees is just a pretender.
When Xander tells Corrin that he will lend him/her his strength, Xander's Siegfried reacts, and the Yato transforms into the Shadow Yato. The Yato is finally able to damage Garon, who begins to break down and prepares to kill Corrin and his children. Xander convinces the siblings to not stand by while Corrin battles for them and help fight alongside Corrin to put an end to Garon and save the world and their kingdom. The Nohrian siblings finally put aside their disbelief and all declare they will fight Garon alongside Corrin, and the proper fight begins. Garon summons a group of mysterious soldiers to kill them, but they fail to do so and he is killed by Corrin and their army shortly afterwards, ending his reign of terror. Garon's death, as well as Takumi's afterwords, finally ends the war and peace has been restored to both Hoshido and Nohr.
Revelation
Garon makes less appearances in this route compared to the other two routes. Garon is first seen sitting on his throne at Castle Krakenberg in Nohr, making note as to how Corrin is still alive and knows a truth he/she should not know, then reveals that he has already set a plan into motion that will easily crush Corrin; Garon states that the world is already his but doesn't know it yet.
Xander and Leo arrive in the throne room and see Garon looking manipulated, telling them to continue the war against Hoshido, and tells them that he wants to destroy not only Hoshido, but also Nohr itself. This causes both Xander and Leo to reconsider their earlier dismissals of Corrin's claims about Garon being manipulated by the real culprit, the Invisible Kingdom of Valla, and they eventually join Corrin's cause.
He makes his last appearance after Anankos is defeated by the combined might of Hoshido and Nohr. Anankos calls Garon and he offers to become a vessel for Anankos in place of Gunter, only for Anankos to betray and devour him to reclaim the power he gifted to Garon to obtain his full power again.

Personality and character
During the story proper, Garon is a brutal and paranoid man, with a lust for power and control. He is blunt and does not tolerate insubordination. He is quick to order his children to step in and get the job done. Due to the severe extent of his possession by Anankos, Garon has little personality beyond his desire to burn the continent to the ground and his sadism, particularly towards Corrin. He shows a consistent and extreme lack of subtlety in his aims, even when his boasting causes his children to sabotage his plans.
In life, Garon was not as brutal of a man as he is now. Garon is described as having been a philanderer who had many lovers. He was never able to leave a woman he had relations with, and quickly amassed a large harem of concubines. In contrast to the concubines, who often jockeyed for power and outright murdered each other and their children, Garon was a loving father who enjoyed spending time playing and sparring with his children.[2] The deaths of all of his biological children save four is attributed to be the cause of his radical shift in personality, although how much of this was genuine grief and how much was Anankos' influence on him is unclear.

Leo: Hmm. Well, before Queen Arete passed away, I'd say he was a gentle father.
Elise: Gentle?! No way! I can't even imagine him like that.
Leo: I know. If I were you, I wouldn't believe it either. But I used to be fond of Father. He even gave me piggyback rides whenever I asked!
Elise: What?! I'm so jealous! He never treated me like that! What else?!
Leo: He was a courageous person. He'd even ride out to battle on the front lines. Obviously, I never saw him do so myself, but that's what I've been told. But I did see him spar. He was so strong... I couldn't help but believe the stories." — Elise and Leo in a support conversation, Fire Emblem Fates
