This chapter introduces the player to the first [[Priest]], [[Rhys]]. He cannot defend himself in any way, and his only purpose is to heal his companions. Due to his frailty, he must be protected at all times, lest he fall to one of the many enemies in this area.
The battle begins with only [[Ike]], [[Boyd]], [[Oscar]] and Rhys in the lower left corner, who are tasked with [[Rout]]ing all of the enemies in the region. The general idea is to have the three fighters huddle around Rhys, in order to protect him from the enemies that approach, while Rhys heals his friends as necessary.
Once the second turn has ended, [[Titania]] appears from the south, and will aid the others in their task. Like in the previous chapter, she is practically invulnerable here, and could easily dispatch all of the enemies to the upper-right. Once again, however, it would be wise to let your weaker fighters get a chance to grow from those encounters, and let Rhys grow by healing their inevitable wounds.
Around the area, there are [[Thicket]]s and [[Healhedge]]s, which can serve as valuable cover for both the mercenaries and the bandits. Hiding in one makes that unit harder to hit, and, in the case of the Healhedge, heals them a minor amount every turn.
The boss, [[Bandit]] [[Ikanau]], is much the same as the previous boss, being only two levels higher than [[Zawana]]. He does not move from his spot, and drops a [[Speedwing]] when he is dispatched, which can bestow a permanent speed boost on whoever uses it.
On Hard Mode, there are four additional enemies to deal with, more of which use axes, making Oscar less effective. A strike force of bandits appears to the left, where only one was in lower difficulties. As such, it is important to defend Rhys on both sides until those enemies are dispatched.

Rescue is the second chapter of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. After Ike's successful first mission, Mist and Rolf get kidnapped by bandits. Hearing the news, Ike and Boyd rush off to rescue them with Oscar and Rhys in tow. In this chapter the party gains its first healer, which adds another element to the strategy of the game.

Plot

The chapter begins with Rhys delivering a letter to Titania just outside the mercenary fort. Titania asks if Rhys is feeling good enough to be up and about, and Rhys claims that his fever has gone and that he is fine. Rhys gives the letter to Titania, and without explanation, Titania orders Rhys to take the letter to Oscar and tell him to prepare for battle.

Rhys, on his way back to the fort, reads the letter, discovering that bandits had captured Mist and Rolf while they were out picking wildflowers. The bandits are allied with the same ones that the party exterminated at Caldea. Furious, Ike runs out immediately, disregarding Titania’s orders to wait for her, and is followed by Boyd, Rhys and Oscar.

At a fork in the road, Ike gets into an argument with Boyd, but it is broken up when Oscar takes the lead, showing them where the bandit stronghold is.

When they arrive, they are greeted by the head bandit, Ikanau, who tells them that the bandits have Mist and Rolf locked up in a shack in the back of the hideout. Oscar tells Rhys to stick to the back of the group, and heal them when necessary.

At the end of the first Player Phase, Mist and Rolf are shown in the shack, having a conversation. Rolf claims to be very scared, but Mist tries to cheer him up with confidence that Ike will come to rescue them. Rolf adds that his brothers will be with Ike, and Mist tells Rolf not to cry any longer.

Titania arrives at the end of the second turn, disappointed that her troops did not follow orders, but not surprised in the least. Ike approaches her, trying to apologize, but she dismisses him, saying they’ll talk about it later, and to keep focused on the battle at hand.

After the party defeats Ikanau and his minions, Titania scolds the other members for directly disobeying her orders. Before they go to search for Rolf and Mist, they hear a scream and run to investigate. Mist and Rolf are being terrorized by another bandit. The older brothers assure their younger siblings that they will be rescued, and Ike threatens to kill the bandit if he does anything to either of the children. The bandit counters, telling the mercenaries to put their weapons down, or he’ll kill them both. Titania obliges, removing her weapons, and her comrades reluctantly do the same. The bandit rushes, swinging his axe at Rolf when a single arrow flies out of the forest, felling the bandit in one shot. Rolf faints. Shinon comes out of the forest, revealing himself as the one who shot the arrow along with Gatrie, struggling to keep up in his armor.

On the way back to the fort, Titania explains to the rest of group that she went to get help from Shinon and Gatrie in order to better prepare for the fight against Ikanau and his bandits. The group apologizes to Titania and Rolf thanks Shinon for saving him as they all head back home.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This chapter introduces the player to the first Priest, Rhys. He cannot defend himself in any way, and his only purpose is to heal his companions. Due to his frailty, he must be protected at all times, lest he fall to one of the many enemies in this area.

The battle begins with only Ike, Boyd, Oscar and Rhys in the lower left corner, who are tasked with Routing all of the enemies in the region. The general idea is to have the three fighters huddle around Rhys, in order to protect him from the enemies that approach, while Rhys heals his friends as necessary.

Once the second turn has ended, Titania appears from the south, and will aid the others in their task. Like in the previous chapter, she is practically invulnerable here, and could easily dispatch all of the enemies to the upper-right. Once again, however, it would be wise to let your weaker fighters get a chance to grow from those encounters, and let Rhys grow by healing their inevitable wounds.

Around the area, there are Thickets and Healhedges, which can serve as valuable cover for both the mercenaries and the bandits. Hiding in one makes that unit harder to hit, and, in the case of the Healhedge, heals them a minor amount every turn.

The boss, Bandit Ikanau, is much the same as the previous boss, being only two levels higher than Zawana. He does not move from his spot, and drops a Speedwing when he is dispatched, which can bestow a permanent speed boost on whoever uses it.

On Hard Mode, there are four additional enemies to deal with, more of which use axes, making Oscar less effective. A strike force of bandits appears to the left, where only one was in lower difficulties. As such, it is important to defend Rhys on both sides until those enemies are dispatched.
