— Soren

The Mad King's War was a major war among the kingdoms of Tellius against the belligerent Kingdom of Daein and its ruler, Ashnard, the titular "Mad King". It began suddenly with Daein conducting an invasion of its neighbor, Crimea, and successfully conquering it. Daein's conquest was opposed by Elincia, the sole survivor of Crimea's royal family, and Ike and the Greil Mercenaries, who worked to unite the other nations of Tellius, both beorc and laguz, to take back Elincia's fallen kingdom and put a stop to Ashnard's plans to unleash a dark god on the world.
