“ | I know how precious my gifts are, so I intend to spend my life perfecting them. I understand my calling, even if Delthea does not. | ” | — Luthier, to Alm |

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Luthier is an interesting unit. While he does suffer from his 4 movement lock, poor promotion, and poor durability like most mages in Shadows of Valentia, he has a very useful niche of being the best counter to enemy Armor knights and Barons. The aforementioned units are only weak to the underwhelming Rapier and as such Luthier is the best unit to take them on, besides a villager mage. He also comes with decent bases and Excalibur which make him useful without needing to be trained. However, Luthier's damage is largely dependent on critical hits as he cannot ORKO enemy Barons at base without a critical hit. Luthier possesses a decent spell list, which does take a while to get, but spells like Thunder and Sagittae give him extra utility, as well as Recover giving him some healing utility. However, after Act 3 he will drop off due to his mediocre attack growth, low movement, and bad enemy phase. He can get warped by Silque, but warp is highly contested by units with better combat than Luthier, luckily the mage ring is in far less demand and he can use it effectively to provide chip damage. He is also a decent unit to deal with enemy Arcanists due to his decent resistance. Overall, Luthier is the best unit to take on armored units on faster playthroughs during Act 3 on Alm's side, but other than countering said enemy archetype Luthier fails to find a decent niche and suffers from the same flaws as all the other mages in Shadows of Valentia.
Personality and character
Luthier is a loner who keeps to himself, he also thinks it is important that he and his sister, Delthea practice their magic with secrecy and discipline. As such, he is shown to be inept at interacting with others.[3] Luthier only has one being he really considers a friend, a cat, though he eventually considers Alm to be his friend as well.[4] Delthea refuses to take him seriously because of his lack of friends. This frustrates Luthier endlessly, as Delthea has refused to undergo training and simply relies on her innate magical abilities, heightened compared to the average human, instead. Luthier and Delthea have a somewhat strained relationship, though they truly care for each other deep down.

Ending
Gaiden
Feeling that his magic was still too inexperienced, he crossed over to a continent beyond the sea.
Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Painfully aware of the inadequacy of his magic, Luthier journeyed across the sea. What he did there is unclear, but stories tell of a steady stream of angry ruffians who later came to Valentia with a bone to pick with an eccentric mage...

Other appearances
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light (manga)
Luthier makes a minor appearance in the Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light manga, in Volume 2, Chapter 5. He is in Khadein, and happens to appear to Merric during a training session. They seem to already be acquainted with each other, and they discuss their magical studies, Luthier journeyed to Khadein to learn spells like Excalibur and Aura, though he has not had success. Luthier is somewhat disappointed when Merric tells him he only knows thunder and blizzard spells.
Merric then asks if Luthier is leaving soon, and Luthier confirms so, stating that things are getting hectic on Valentia and that he should return home. Luthier then states that they will probably never meet again, though before he leaves, he tells Merric that he heard that Marth has left Talys and is trying to meet with Princess Nyna.
His appearance in the manga seems to be primarily based off of his portrait in Gaiden, so he lacks his ponytail.
Fire Emblem Cipher
Luthier is currently featured on two cards in Fire Emblem Cipher.
