Glen announces to Eirika that Emperor [[Vigarde]] has assigned him to take her out in retaliation for the alleged massacre of innocents at Port Kiris and the rebellion she led at [[Carcino]]. Eirika denies the accusations, and Glen decides to give the princess time to explain herself. Before Eirika gets the chance, however, Innes angrily calls Glen an idiot for buying Vigarde's obvious lies and explains that Eirika entered Carcino with her small force to rescue him. Eirika prevents Innes from going on further and clarifies to Glen that she does not wish to fight him but if he pushes them, she will retaliate in kind. Innes and Eirika's words confirm many suspicions Glen had about his emperor, prompting him to agree to let Eirika proceed as he confirms the veracity of her claims. Seconds after Eirika leaves, [[Valter]] approaches Glen; he saw and heard everything, yet Glen seems to not care. Glen tells Valter to clear a path so he can return to the capital. Valter refuses and begins to rant about the anger and indignation he suffered at the hands of him and [[Duessel]] when he was kicked out of the [[Imperial Three]] and exiled from Grado. Valter continues, asserting that his desire for revenge is the only thing that has kept him alive until this moment. Glen remains silent, which seems only to goad Valter's rage and strengthen his resolve to kill Glen. The two battle and Valter manages to quickly dispatch Glen. Valter sends his soldiers to silence Glen's subordinates and muses to himself over his craving for endless battle and war as he stands over the corpse of his former ally. | ||

Creeping Darkness/Script
Ewan excitedly leads Eirika's group through the mountain pass. A thick fog has descended upon the group as they approach a seemingly abandoned fortress, reducing their visibility. Suddenly, Innes tells Ewan to stop where he is. Innes inquires about the fort and asks if it is currently in use. Ewan replies that it has been empty for quite some time. Innes points out a barely audible, mysterious sound coming from the fortress. They continue to hear the sound, leading Innes to conclude that they have been spotted by the monsters inside the fort. Tethys tells Ewan to get behind her. Ewan attempts to protest and insists on fighting too but Tethys manages to convince her brother to stand down and leave the fighting to the others.
Meanwhile, L'Arachel and Dozla have arrived at the same abandoned fortress, seeking a place to stay for the night. L'Arachel seems to be completely unaware of the nearby monsters and begins to idly wonder where Rennac could have gone when Dozla informs L'Arachel of the nearby monsters. Despite the bad situation they have ended up in L'Arachel claims that this is the result of her good fortune and that they were guided to this mountain to strike down these abominations. With a war cry, the duo begin to handle the monsters on their side of the field while, unbeknownst to them, Eirika's group handles the rest.
Eventually, Eirika runs into L'Arachel and tells her to take refuge elsewhere. L'Arachel, however, refuses, claiming that it is her to divine mission to purge the land of these monsters. The eccentric Troubadour then offers Eirika the opportunity to witness her in action, an offer which Eirika accepts somewhat hesitantly. After being recruited by Eirika, L'Arachel dashes off to Dozla and informs him that they will be joining Eirika's group for a time. Dozla asks if L'Arachel has any specific commands. She merely tells him to destroy the enemies and be sure to enjoy himself.
Once the monsters have been routed, Eirika thanks L'Arachel for her assistance. L'Arachel accepts Eirika's gratitude and then realizes that she does not even know the name of the woman she so graciously helped. Eirika introduces herself by her actual name despite Seth's objections. L'Arachel manages to instantly piece together that she is speaking with Eirika, princess of Renais, and assumes that the princess must be lost to have ended up in Carcino of all places. Eirika quickly corrects L'Arachel's assumption and informs her of her task of protecting Rausten from Grado's imperial army. After hearing of her task, L'Arachel insists on accompanying Eirika, once again insisting that the day's events must be part of the design of the gods.
Ewan continues to guide Eirika's group to his teacher, Saleh. The group eventually reaches the house of the Sage and meet him face-to-face. Eirika recognizes Saleh as the man she met in Serafew who was searching for a girl with indigo hair. Saleh also recognizes Eirika from that day, though neither of them have the chance to discuss it as Ewan interrupts and asks him to guide Eirika's group to Caer Pelyn. Saleh accepts Ewan's request as he too was headed the same way to complete a mission he recently accepted. Before they depart, however, Saleh advises they rest for the night as the path he will take them on will be quite difficult. Eirika and Innes agree that resting would be for the best. Ewan, wanting to be helpful, decides to depart ahead of the group and inform the elder of their arrival.
When morning arrives Eirika and her group depart for Caer Pelyn but are quickly interrupted by Glen of the Imperial Three. Glen announces to Eirika that Emperor Vigarde has assigned him to take her out in retaliation for the alleged massacre of innocents at Port Kiris and the rebellion she led at Carcino. Seconds after Eirika leaves, Valter approaches Glen; he saw and heard everything, yet Glen seems to not care. Glen tells Valter to clear a path so he can return to the capital. Valter refuses and begins to rant about the anger and indignation he suffered at the hands of him and Duessel when he was kicked out of the Imperial Three and exiled from Grado.
Beginning log
The Caer Pelyn Range... According to Ewan, a little-known passage to Jehanna lies there, hidden within its cracked redbedrock and knife-edged peaks. To avoid Carcino and combat, Eirika's troops take the mountain path. They begin climbing higher and higher toward Caer Pelyn. Unbeknownst to the group, hordes of dark creatures now roam the peaks.

Trivia
- In the prototype this chapter's map was originally used for chapter 6. When chapter 6 was revamped with a new map the old map was used for this chapter instead.
- This chapter, alongside Phantom Ship, was possibly one of the last chapters added to the game in development, being the only two chapters completely absent from the prototype. This may also be the reason it does not have a corresponding world map location, instead occurring between locations, as the world map was already laid out in essentially its final form even in the very early prototype.
- This is also supported by the fact that Creeping Darkness and Phantom Ship are the only two chapters with their titles listed out of order, being at the end of the list, internally.
- The cutscene at the end of the chapter is the only instance in the Fire Emblem series where two red units engage each other in combat without one of them being driven berserk.
