“ | The hero Grado and his warriors used the Sacred Stones to combat evil's darkness. They defeated the Demon King and sealed his soul away within the stones. | ” | — Opening narration of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones's prologue |
---|
The five heroes (Japanese: 五人の英雄 five heroes) were five humans that fought against Fomortiis, their story is recounted in the Legend of the Sacred Stones.
The five heroes are one of the least divulged groups of heroes in the Fire Emblem series, no images are known to exist of any hero, and only two of the five heroes have known names. This lack of knowledge about them seems to more come from no opportunity arising to mention them, as in-universe the heroes seem to be well known across Magvel. In particular, they are included in Eirika's, Ephraim's, and Lyon's history curriculums.[1]
Overview
The five heroes fought eight hundred years before the events of The Sacred Stones. During this time Fomortiis held dominion over Magvel, as well as pushing Humanity to the brink of annihilation. Through some unknown force the five heroes were blessed with the five Sacred Stones. The five heroes also possessed two monster-slaying weapons each, Gleipnir excluded, being not effective against monsters, the origins of the Sacred Twins are also unknown.
With the aid of Morva and the rest of the manakete tribe, Grado and the other heroes attacked Fomortiis in Darkling Woods.[2] The heroes are successful in killing Fomortiis, though with great casualties to their forces.[3] The Demon King's death in the forest had the side effect of near-irreversibly corrupting the earth with the Demon King's blood.
After the defeat of Fomortiis each hero went on to found a country. Grado founded the Grado Empire, which is named after him, and Latona founded Rausten. Renais, Frelia, and Jehanna were each founded by a hero. The modern-day royal families of each country are descended from their founding hero, and their respective set of Sacred Twins and Sacred Stone are passed along the royal family bloodlines.
