“ | 'Tis Archanea's burden to protect the world of crisis- a duty I have striven to fulfill. But Dolhr has laid waste to my kingdom, and now I find myself powerless to stop the world from falling into ruin. | ” | — Nyna, to Marth |
---|
Nyna (ニーナ, Niena) is the Princess of the Holy Kingdom of Archanea, the daughter of the late twenty-third king. In the fall of Archanea at the onset of the War of Shadows, she was the sole survivor, reluctantly kept alive by the forces of Dolhr even as her entire family was executed, the result of the efforts of Camus of Grust. After two years of imprisonment in her conquered home, when it became clear that Dolhr was growing tired of her continued existence, Camus led a small band of knights of the Sable Order in spiriting her away to Aurelis, where she entered the protection of its Prince Hardin. It was there that she and Hardin met Marth, Altea's prince, and under him and the Fire Emblem she entrusted to him, the resistance to Dolhr's tyranny began and grew, progressing to liberate Archanea and Altea, and to defeat Gra, Grust, Macedon and eventually Dolhr itself.
After the war, upon the advice and pressure of Bishop Boah and other Archanean nobles, Nyna married Hardin despite her lingering feelings for the lost Camus; as such, Hardin was crowned Archanea's 24th king. Hardin soon learned of the absence of love in their marriage, which cast him into a deep depression and, under the influence of Gharnef's Darksphere, twisted him into a man of rage and hatred. Nyna handed the Fire Emblem over to Linde, instructing her to give it to Marth, before Hardin handed her over without hesitation to Gharnef, who took her to be used as one of four noblewoman sacrifices for the revival of Medeus.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light
Role
Since her release by Camus, Nyna had been under the care of Prince Hardin of Aurelis, and of his elder brother the king, as they actively resisted the Macedon occupation of the country. The tide of the battle turned when Marth and the Altean army arrived, joining with Hardin's men to reclaim the castle and territory. At the conclusion of the battle, Nyna entrusted Marth with the command of the united resistance army, granting him the Fire Emblem as a symbol of his leadership and responsibility to save Archanea.
The resistance army quickly progressed to reclaim Archanea, where Nyna retrieved the Parthia and handed it over to Marth's army for its use. From there, under Marth's direction, the army defeated Gra, then took a detour to Khadein in an effort to find the missing Falchion, before returning to and reclaiming Altea. From there, the army progressed to Grust. Nyna confessed to Marth her history with Camus, and of her ongoing affection for the man; when facing Camus's forces near the Grust castle, Nyna and Marth attempted to persuade Camus to defect, with no success. For a time, following Camus's defeat and disappearance, Nyna grieved.
In short order, Macedon and Dolhr itself both fell, Medeus was dead by Marth's hand, and the war was over. Nyna convinced a mildly confused Marth to confess his longtime feelings for Caeda to her, resulting in Marth and Caeda becoming engaged. After the war, on the advice of Boah, she proposed to Hardin and the two married, with him becoming Archanea's 24th king.

Book 2
Role
Eventually, Hardin learned of the nature of her proposal and her lack of love for him, first sending him into a depression, then afterward corrupting him into a despot under the influence of the Darksphere. Nyna quickly noticed the change, and in response entrusted the Fire Emblem to her apprentice Linde, to get it to Marth in preparation for the oncoming crisis. Hardin then imprisoned her, later handing her over to Gharnef without hesitation. Gharnef took her away to the Dragon's Altar, to use her as one of four sacrifices of noble blood to revive Medeus, along with Elice of Altea, and Lena and Maria of Macedon.
By the time Marth reached the Dragon's Altar, Medeus had already been revived, albeit in an incomplete form, with the four noblewomen surrounding him in preparation to be sacrified and consumed to strengthen him to the point of full revival. The four had been hypnotised into subservience to Medeus by Gharnef. Sirius approached Nyna and awoke her from the hypnosis; she instantly recognised him as Camus, despite his protestations. After Medeus's fall, she entrusted the rule of Archanea to Marth, then disappeared and was never seen again.

Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga
Role
When the army of Dolhr came to lay siege to Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, Nyna's father gave Boah the task of escorting her out of the palace to escape to safety. Nyna initially protested as she did not wish to abandon her father to the mercies of Dolhr, but Boah put her to sleep with a staff to prevent her protestations and to get on with the escape, assisted by a retinue of Archanean knights led by Midia. On their way out, the group was cornered in a room of the palace by a number of Dolhr soldiers led by Gouber, and fought to resist capture for some time until Camus arrived to finish the job. Losing hope, Nyna attempted to commit suicide, but was persuaded to stop and survive by Camus, who encouraged her to survive for the good of Archanea's future and people.
For the ensuing time period, Pales and Nyna remained under Camus' custody, and she was given relative freedom as he protected her. In two years, however, Camus received word that minions of Dolhr approached Pales, looking to take Nyna and likely end her life. Camus decided to take Nyna to Aurelis, to be protected by its Prince Hardin; Nyna initially protested the idea of Camus sacrificing himself for her, the inevitable result, confessing her love for him in the process, but soon reluctantly accepted. On the way, the Dolhr forces led by Brzak soon caught up, and for a time was fended off by Camus and his three Sable Knights, with Nyna protesting the idea of them sacrificing themselves for her. In the end, Hardin rode out to meet Nyna, who collapsed in his arms and was taken into his care, still wishing for Camus's safety.
