Officially romanized as Gail. One of a number of shortened forms of the feminine biblical name "Abigail", originating from the Hebrew אֲבִיגַיִל / אֲבִיגָיִל; the biblical Abigail was most well known as the third wife of King David. Although the actual spelling "Gail" was more commonly used for both genders prior to the 1930s, it eventually lost favor in male usage and became increasingly used as a feminine-specific spelling. Contrary to the name's modern feminine connotations, this particular Gail is a male character. |
