Gustav (Japanese: グスタフ Gustaf) is a character appearing in Fire Emblem Heroes. He is the king of Askr, and the father of Alfonse and Sharena.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
During the events of Book II, Gustav is only mentioned twice, once during Part 1 of Chapter 3 and again during Part 1 of Chapter 4. In both instances, it is stated that he is commanding the Askran Royal Knights in defending the realm from Surtr's invasion.
Gustav makes his proper debut during Book III. He often chastises Alfonse and tries to shape him into becoming a wiser and more responsible ruler. Eventually, Alfonse suffers a death curse at the hands of Hel, and Gustav sacrifices himself to take the curse and save his son. Hel later revives Gustav to serve as one of her generals, stripping him of control of his body. He requests the Order to strike him down before they proceed into the gates of Hel, which they succeed at doing.
There are two different variations of Gustav appearing Heroes. The normal variation of Gustav is a non-playable character that serves as the boss of Chapter 5 of Book III. A Valentine's variation of Gustav was made available between the period of February 5, 2021 through March 5, 2021 as part of the summoning event surrounding the Love of a King update, making him one of a number of heroes to have been made available only as a special variation without a normal variation of them playable.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Gustav: Majestic Love's most notable trait is his D/R Near Save skill, allowing him to take melee-range hits for his teammates. This is compounded by an absolutely insane 46 Defense and Close Defense 4. His Resistance could use some work if you intend for him to fight dragons, and he absolutely wants some way to heal himself since he's going to be taking so much damage for the team. Used wisely, he can be a strong asset to any team, and is even viable in Aether Raids defense.
Personality and character
Little has been revealed about Gustav's character. At the beginning of Chapter 4, Alfonse states that Gustav was angry with him when he told him that he wanted to join the Order of Heroes, and that they still do not see each other at the castle. Regardless, Alfonse still knows that Gustav cares deeply about his people and kingdom.
Gustav's personality is more firmly established when he makes his proper storyline debut. He is a stern and somewhat harsh man, and is not afraid to call his son out on his failures and reckless decision-making. Despite this, he genuinely cares about his family. His wife notes that he was far more hot-headed in his youth, although an incident she refuses to elaborate on turned him into the cautious man he is today.

Trivia
- Gustav is mentioned by name in the English version of the game long before he is mentioned by name in the Japanese version. In the English version his name is seen in dialogue early in Part 1 of Chapter 3 of Book II, while he is not mentioned by name until the beginning of Book III in the Japanese script.
