Crazed Beast/Script
The scene opens with Sonia at the jail cell of a former member of the Four Fangs, Pascal. Sonia demands that she be allowed to see Pascal. The Black Fang members stationed there attempt to protest but Sonia's orders as they directly conflict with previous orders received from their leader, Brendan Reed; however, Sonia persists and the guards eventually relent and open the cell. Sonia confirms with Pascal the details of his savagery and his past as a member of the Black Fang, all details Pascal confirms. Sonia decides to release him and sick him on Eliwood as she believes Pascal's talents would go to waste if he were to rot in a prison cell. Pascal is pleased to be released and to be allowed to do what he knows best, indiscriminate murder.
Meanwhile, Hector, Lyn, and Eliwood, having accepted Hellene's request to find the Fire Emblem, follow any leads they can find. They decide to follow a lead that Hector obtained that leads them to the southern marshes of Bern. Despite Lyn's doubts, Hector inists the lead he found is legitimate; however, just as they begin to investigate the three fortresses where they were told they would find the thieves, Pascal's forces ambush the lords. A Black Fang soldier asks Pascal if they should inform Black Fang HQ that they found Eliwood and have him surrounded. Pascal commands the soldier to charge into battle and kill Eliwood so they may take the glory instead of the Four Fangs, who will most certainly appear should any other Black Fang members find out. Hector, now surrounded, commands the group to seize the three fortresses to force the enemy to retreat. With their objective in mind, the group proceeds to take on Pascal and his lackeys.
During the battle, Farina arrives on the battlefield seeking an opportunity to offer her services as a mercenary. She quickly spots Hector and approaches him. Farina confidently sells herself as a capable warrior whose skills would greatly aid Hector. Impressed by her confidence and knowing that Ilian mercenaries never betray their employers, Hector asks how much she is asking for her services. Farina confidently replies she needs 20,000 gold to join Hector. Hector initially refuses to pay such an outrageous sum, but after consulting the Tacitican he concludes that the deal is quite good considering the fee covers medical costs, bonuses, and any additional battles Hector may find himself involved in. If Hector accepts Farina's terms, she is surprised that he did not even attempt to negotiate and had the money to pay up front. Nevertheless, Farina accepts the gold and joins Hector's army.
Once the three forts have been captured, the remaining soldiers flee. Lyn lectures Hector for trusting the bad lead that almost got them trapped and killed and says they would have been better off listening to Eliwood and heading towards the palace. Lyn's harsh words cause Hector to start an argument with her. Eliwood breaks up the argument by reminding the two that they need to leave before reinforcements arrive and that they have still benefitted themselves by weakening the enemy.
