Strategy
Strategy
The first order of business is the cell in the upper left corner of the map where the Archanean knights are imprisoned. The enemy Mage can one-shot Dolph, Macellan, and Tomas, and two-round Midia and Boah. The two Archers can one-round Macellan and Tomas and two-round Midia and Boah. If they both get 9 Strength, then they two-round Dolph; otherwise, they one-round him as well. Fortunately, a Thief near your starting position is perfectly willing to donate a fresh Warp staff, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. As far as the units themselves are concerned, Dolph outclasses Macellan in every way possible except for a moderate disadvantage in Luck and a small disadvantage in Strength. Both of them will be inferior to a trained Draug, never mind Wolf or Sedgar as a General. Tomas serves as an acceptable replacement for Gordin or Castor if they are untrained or dead, but if you've already got a trained bowman, he's not worth much. Midia gets clobbered by any decently trained Cavalier, but at least she recruits Astram. Finally, Boah has poor stats and growths, and is mainly useful for his base C staff rank, allowing him to use Warp and Physic right from the get-go.
Overview:

# Primary Objective: Save Archanean knights imprisoned in the upper left corner.
On turn 1, Warp someone powerful like Caeda, Wolf, or Sedgar to one-round the Mage. Note that the nearby Knight will not aggro, so you can safely pick off the Mage. Leave a couple of bulky units behind to deal with the reinforcements, and push your way to the west. On turn 3, Heimler and his two men will aggro and start making their way towards you, while enemy reinforcements will start appearing. Bunker down and kill them all. Meanwhile, you can have a Thief start looting the treasure room. The General won't aggro, so feel free to help yourself. The Sniper near Volzhin, on the other hand, will gleefully shoot you in the face.
# Enemy Threats: Mage, Archers, Knight, Sniper, Volzhin (boss), and reinforcements including Heimler and his men.
# Treasures: Dragonpike chest, Boots (bottom right), and an armory selling swords.
# Outcome: If you have 15 or fewer units alive at the chapter's end, you'll proceed to Chapter 12x.

Once you've beaten back the initial wave, the biggest threat is the Sniper. The safest way to delete him is to first move a unit onto the chest containing the Dragonpike. The enemy Curate is too stupid to move out of the Sniper's way, so the Sniper will simply move one space right on the enemy phase. Then, open the door, have Caeda severely injure him with a Silver Lance double, and finish him with a strong ranged attack. Once he's dead, you can pick off the Curates at your leisure. The boss, Volzhin, has 16 Speed after accounting for his tome's weight. Have Caeda deal with him. Make sure to get the Boots in the bottom right corner of the map before seizing. There's also an armory there that sells swords. You shouldn't need to buy any Armorslayers since you got a free one from that Thief and swords are bad in this game. If you do end up needing some, they are available at least every other chapter up until Chapter 20.
New Unit Details:
# Dolph: Outclasses Macellan except for luck and strength. Surpasses Draug in non luck and speed growths if trained, but inferior to Wolf, or Sedgar as a General.
# Macellan: Inferior in most stats but has some advantages in luck and strength.
# Tomas: Suitable Gordin or Castor replacement if they're untrained/dead. Not worthwhile if you have a trained bowman.
# Midia: Inferior to a trained Cavalier. Recruits Astram.
# Boah: Poor stats and growths. Useful for his C staff rank, can use Warp and Physic immediately.

If you have 15 or less units alive at the end of the chapter, you're heading to Chapter 12x.
Strategy:
# Initial Action: Warp a strong unit (Caeda, Wolf, or Sedgar) to eliminate the Mage. The nearby Knight won't aggro. Leave a few robust units for reinforcements and move west.
# Turn 3: Heimler and his team aggro. Reinforcements appear. Defend and eliminate threats. Have a Thief begin looting the treasure room. The General inside won't aggro.
# Handling the Sniper: Position a unit on the Dragonpike chest. The enemy Curate won't move. The Sniper will adjust his position. Open the door, weaken Sniper with Caeda's Silver Lance, and finish him with a ranged attack.
# Concluding the Chapter: Pick off remaining Curates. Deal with boss Volzhin using Caeda. Retrieve the Boots. Optionally visit the armory, but avoid Armorslayers (you should have a free one and swords are generally inferior in this game).

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Overview:

 1. Primary Objective: Save Archanean knights imprisoned in the upper left corner.
 2. Enemy Threats: Mage, Archers, Knight, Sniper, Volzhin (boss), and reinforcements including Heimler and his men.
 3. Treasures: Dragonpike chest, Boots (bottom right), and an armory selling swords.
 4. Outcome: If you have 15 or fewer units alive at the chapter's end, you'll proceed to Chapter 12x.

New Unit Details:

 1. Dolph: Outclasses Macellan except for luck and strength. Surpasses Draug in non luck and speed growths if trained, but inferior to Wolf, or Sedgar as a General.
 2. Macellan: Inferior in most stats but has some advantages in luck and strength.
 3. Tomas: Suitable Gordin or Castor replacement if they're untrained/dead. Not worthwhile if you have a trained bowman.
 4. Midia: Inferior to a trained Cavalier. Recruits Astram.
 5. Boah: Poor stats and growths. Useful for his C staff rank, can use Warp and Physic immediately.

Strategy:

 1. Initial Action: Warp a strong unit (Caeda, Wolf, or Sedgar) to eliminate the Mage. The nearby Knight won't aggro. Leave a few robust units for reinforcements and move west.
 2. Turn 3: Heimler and his team aggro. Reinforcements appear. Defend and eliminate threats. Have a Thief begin looting the treasure room. The General inside won't aggro.
 3. Handling the Sniper: Position a unit on the Dragonpike chest. The enemy Curate won't move. The Sniper will adjust his position. Open the door, weaken Sniper with Caeda's Silver Lance, and finish him with a ranged attack.
 4. Concluding the Chapter: Pick off remaining Curates. Deal with boss Volzhin using Caeda. Retrieve the Boots. Optionally visit the armory, but avoid Armorslayers (you should have a free one and swords are generally inferior in this game).

Trivia

 • In Shadow Dragon, there is a forest tile that lacks the visual distinction of one; this forest is distinct in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.
