“ | She is a rebel and traitor to the empire. I have no sister. | ” | — Yen'fay |
---|
Sibling Blades (Japanese: 双剣の兄弟 Twin-blade Brothers) is the eighteenth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the Shepherds take on Yen'fay, the traitorous leader of the Chon'sin people and key subordinate of Walhart, within the confines of an active volcano that may turn the tides of the war back toward the Shepherds' favor.
In addition to the next chapter in the storyline, completing this chapter will also unlock the seventeenth paralogue chapter.

Sibling Blades/Script
The Shepherds break through the Resistance without much trouble, but doing so puts them between Yen'fay's forces and those of Walhart and the Resistance at the foot of a volcano, the Demon's Ignle. In order to mitigate the chance that the Resistance will pursue them, the Shepherds decide to climb the volcano, additionally allowing them control of how Yen'fay can approach. When Yen'fay arrives at the Demon's Ingle, Excellus teleports to him, commenting on his foul mood but commending him on his willingness to fight his sister, then leaves as the battle begins.
Once Yen'fay is dead, the Shepherds reconvene. Excellus arrives to taunt Say'ri, revealing that Yen'fay agreed to fight for the empire under the condition that they spare Say'ri's life. Excellus leaves having devastated Say'ri; she laments how she treated her brother, but she is comforted by Chrom and Robin, who convince her to continue fighting. Later, Chrom is informed by a soldier of Basilio's death at Walhart's hand, a fact confirmed by Flavia; she then gives Chrom Gules on behalf of Basilio. Say'ri arrives and informs them that Walhart and his forces have retreated to the imperial capital, also speculating that the Resistance turncoats may reconsider fighting for the empire now that two of the three divisions of the empire's miltary have been defeated. The Shepherds prepare for a decisive battle against Walhart at the capital.
Summary
The Ylisseans strike Yen'fay down and learn of his sacrifice. When they hear Basilio has died as well, it is decided the time has come to finally face Walhart.

This chapter features floors islets that become patches of hazard terrain on certain specific turns. If an enemy stands on an islet that becomes hazard terrain, they will be provoked by the damage taken and begin moving. If there is a chest on an islet that becomes hazard terrain, it will be destroyed and become impossible to open, meaning it must be opened beforehand if one wishes to obtain its contents. The floor changes are fixed, occurring at the beginning of certain phases each time the chapter is played.
One islet will become hazard terrain each player phase and enemy phase. On the first player phase, the western starting islet is destroyed, and islets continue to be destroyed in an alternating Z-shaped pattern. On the first enemy phase, the islet east of Yen'fay is destroyed, and islets continue to be destroyed in an alternating S-shaped pattern.

Strategy

In this chapter, certain parts of the terrain crumble on each phase. Apart from a select few tiles that stay sturdy regardless of what goes on and thus remain floor tiles throughout (including both of the stage's event tiles), each area of terrain has two phases. The terrain begins its life as a floor tile, which has its standard effect. In its second phase, it becomes a hazard tile, in which anyone standing on it at the start of their phase takes 10 damage. The stage's transformation is completed on turn 12 enemy phase. Any unopened chest in an area that becomes hazardous becomes a scrap tile, its treasure now unobtainable.
Trivia
- Despite the chapter's terrain gimmick potentailly implying otherwise, the location of The Demon's Ingle can indeed be revisited to fight skirmishes. In a skirmish, the terrain remains that which was presented in the chapter's preparations phase throughout the skirmish without any alterations between phases.
