As the Shepherds and an unnamed Ylissean hierarch make their way through a mountain pass towards the eastern palace, they are inexplicably accosted by a group of Plegian soldiers. As the battle is joined, the hierarch begs the Plegians to take him under their protection, but the enemy commander Vasto mocks him for his self-serving cowardice before having him put to the sword. The Shepherds are joined by Cordelia, a talented pegasus knight whose squad in the rearguard was wiped out by enemy reinforcements, and together they wipe out the enemy force.
As the Shepherds and an Ylissean hierarch make their way through a mountain pass towards the eastern palace, they are suddenly accosted by a group of Plegian soldiers. As the battle begins, the hierarch begs the Plegians to take him under their protection, but the enemy commander Vasto mocks him for his self-serving cowardice before executing him. The Shepherds are joined by Cordelia, a talented pegasus knight whose squad in the rearguard was wiped out by enemy reinforcements, and together they rout the enemy force.

Once Vasto is defeated, Cordelia urges Emmeryn and Chrom to flee, as Plegian reinforcements are "not a half day's march behind". Cordelia says that Gangrel led an army to the border and overwhelmed the guards, and that she had fled to warn the exalt. Emmeryn decides to return to the capital and entrusts the Fire Emblem to Chrom, instructing him to take it to safety in Ferox. In spite of Chrom and Lissa's pleas, Emmeryn returns to Ylisstol accompanied by Phila.

At the Arena Ferox, Lissa worries about Emmeryn, but Chrom remains distant. Sumia, intending to slap Chrom to "break him out of his doldrums", punches Chrom in the face, to Flavia's amusement. Flavia informs Chrom that the Feroxi army has mobilized, and that she and Basilio will be joining them. Basilio informs Chrom his scouts have reported that Ylisstol has fallen; the Plegians captured Emmeryn and retreated back to Plegia, with Gangrel declaring Emmeryn to be publicly executed within the month. Flavia, Robin, and Basilio suspect this to be a trap, and Basilio states that they should consider their options carefully. Chrom calls for the Shepherds to march to Plegia, intent on rescuing his sister regardless of any traps. Flavia attempts to calm Chrom and Robin promises to come up with a plan to save her.

This map is a fairly straightforward slugfest. Deploy only Chrom and Robin, set up shop in a forest, and clean house. The Wind tome you forged back in Chapter 5 will greatly help against the enemy Wyvern Riders; just keep an eye out for the Counter/Aegis+ combo. Cordelia joins on turn 3; move her as far away from the west side of the map as possible to keep her safe from the enemy reinforcements. If Robin is at or approaching level 20 at the end of the battle, you're in great shape.

No part of House Ylisse matters more than the Emblem. It possesses tremendous power. But too much blood has been shed over it already. I hope it finds a better guardian in you than it did me.
— Emmeryn, to Chrom

Incursion (Japanese: 侵略 Invasion) is the seventh chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the escort of Emmeryn to Ylisse's eastern palace has gone horribly wrong, and the Shepherds are forced to defend themselves from a Plegian attack deep in their own territory. It is in this chapter Chrom takes possession of the Fire Emblem and, by extension, the gemstone already set therein.

In addition to the next chapter in the storyline, completing this chapter will also unlock the third paralogue chapter.

Plot

Main article: Incursion/Script

At the Arena Ferox, Flavia informs Chrom that the Feroxi army has mobilized, and that she and Basilio will be joining them. Basilio informs Chrom his scouts have reported that Ylisstol has fallen; the Plegians captured Emmeryn and retreated back to Plegia, with Gangrel declaring Emmeryn to be publicly executed within the month. Despite the obvious trap, Chrom calls for the Shepherds to march to Plegia, intent on rescuing his sister. Robin swears to save the exalt.

Summary

While escorting the exalt to safety, the Ylisseans are ambushed. Emmeryn gives Chrom the Fire Emblem and returns to Ylisstol to protect her people.
