— Cuan, after receiving it from Ethlin
|
Gae Bolg (ゲイボルグ) is the lance once wielded by Noba of the Twelve Crusaders, bestowed upon her at the Miracle of Darna after her blood-bond with a dragon. The blade is the property of Noba's descendants, the royal family of Lenster, and can only be wielded by those in possession of major Noba Holy Blood.
Before Cuan and Ethlin departed Lenster to assist Siglud in his dealings with Verdane, King Calf entrusted the Gae Bolg to Ethlin in case the situation got too out of hand. One year into Siglud's occupation of Agustria, with King Chagall's launch of an assault on Siglud's position at Agusty Castle, Ethlin handed the spear to Cuan, noting that she had been reluctant to do so because of its unfortunate history, the Tragedy of the Gae Bolg. Cuan used it in the fight against Chagall and the Orgahil pirates, and had it with him when he, Ethlin, the infant Altenna and the Lenster knights made their ill-fated journey through the Yied Desert. After Trabant slew Cuan and Ethlin, he took the Gae Bolg and Altenna for himself.
Over the following years, Trabant raised Altenna as his own daughter; her inheritance of Cuan's major Noba blood allowed her to wield the Gae Bolg, and so she used in the service of Thracia, defending the country from Celice's liberation army until she met her younger brother, Leaf, who eventually convinced her of her Lenster heritage and to, with the encouragement of her foster brother Areone, leave Thracia and ally with Celice.
