analysis
Laylea is a level 3 Dancer who joins in Chapter 7 of Genealogy, in the second generation. With a C-rank in swords, inability to promote, extreme frailty and low movement, Laylea is not a combat unit. Her strength lies in... dancing, as one would expect from a dancer. Dancers have the unique utility of refreshing another unit's turn. This lets the target act again, even if they have already acted this turn. Genealogy 's dancers are better than the average dancer, because they refresh four units at a time. Laylea can refresh every unit in her 1-range at the same time, which is incredibly useful. She also lacks competitors, since no other unit in the second generation can dance.
Laylea has a major disadvantage compared to the unit she substitutes, Lene. She cannot receive any inheritance. This is a problem, because this means she cannot inherit the Knight Ring or the Leg Ring. While she can still buy both, it costs a lot of money, money Laylea cannot easily obtain. Her best bet is either visiting villages or gathering gifts from the player's thief. It would be better and more convenient for her to join with inheritance, but as a substitute unit, she cannot.
Why are the Knight Ring and Leg Ring relevant? They are incredible items to have on a dancer. With the Knight Ring, Laylea can dance for a group of units, then move a few squares. This help her to keep up with the units she dances for, and also to stay out of danger. Laylea is also the second best recipient of the Leg Ring after Seliph. With the Leg Ring, Laylea can cover more ground and easily keep up with the player's mounted frontline. Combining the Leg Ring and Knight Ring turns her into a superdancer with the movement of a mounted unit. That version of Laylea is arguably the best unit in the second generation next to Seliph.
Laylea compensates for the lack of inheritance with one thing - her skillset. Instead of Adept and Miracle, she has Charm. Adept and Miracle are both bad skills on a dancer, because they involve fighting with your dancer. Charm, on the other hand, can be useful. It makes Laylea increase the hit and avoid of allied units within three squares of her by 10%. It can be difficult to make use of, since three squares is not much. Getting Laylea in Charm range will usually involve moving her into enemy range as well. It is also harder to use Charm when Laylea does not have the Knight Ring or the Leg Ring. Why? It is tough to get into position with base Dancer movement and no Canto. That said, once Laylea finally receives both items, or even only the Knight Ring, she can use Charm well.
Overall, Laylea has one advantage over Lene, that being Charm. Lene's skills are unsuitable for her, but Laylea's one skill is quite good with the right setup. However, Laylea cannot inherit any items, while Lene can - and dancer inheritance is useful to have. For that reason, Lene is a better unit than Laylea, but they are both incredible assets and should always be used.

Sometimes I have to dance for disgusting men, but that's a part of my job! We do what we do to survive!
— Laylea

Laylea (Japanese: レイリア Laylea) is a travelling Jugdrali dancer and the elder sister of Charlot, Hannibal's adopted son. While working in the city of Darna, she became close with Ares, the prince of Agustria, and later accompanied him in fighting for Seliph's liberation army against the Grannvale Empire.

Laylea is Lene's substitute character, filling her role in the story and gameplay if Silvia died or failed to be married in the course of the first generation.

Biography

Little is known of Laylea's origins or upbringing, save that she likely grew up in an orphanage like Charlot did before Hannibal adopted him. She took to dancing as a way to earn money to survive.

Her work as a dancer eventually took her to Darna around Grann 777, where she met Ares, who was there with Javarro's mercenaries serving a job with the city's Count Bramsel. The two quickly established a friendship, and when Bramsel made a lecherous advance at her, Ares stepped in to force him to back down from his solicitations. However, the two soon fought over Ares needing to go fight Seliph's army at Melgen. After he left, Bramsel attempted to approach her again, and Leaylea's resistance to his actions led to her imprisonment in the Darna dungeons. Following Seliph's capture of Darna, she was freed from imprisonment by one of his soldiers, and upon meeting Ares - now with Seliph's army - she joined him in the army, wishing to stay close to him in future.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Personality and character

Laylea tends to be flirtatious, particularly liking to tease those who are embarrassed and flustered.[1] Because of the demands of her own job as a dancer, Laylea believes that holding grudges based on somebody's job, no matter what it led to, is foolish.[2] She was very attached to Ares, and was outright angry when he needed to leave to fight for Javarro, even blaming him for the fact that she felt Javarro was using him.[3]
