Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
While it does little to the battle itself, it is possible to spare Flayn and Seteth from an unwanted demise. Simply use Byleth to battle either of them first, allowing them to say they're willing to retreat instead. Should you use someone other than Byleth and kill one of them, the other will also perish during the battle.
Maddening
You have some time this chapter but not a lot. At the start of the enemy's 12th turn, all of the forested area will be set ablaze, removing the maze-like terrain, turning the ground into damaging hazard, and opening up a second doorway that has to be defended. Due to the sheer number of reinforcements that spawn in these ambushes, the safest strategy is to have your highest avoid unit bait out the enemy ambushes while the forests are up. From there, funnel the enemies into the open starting area where the rest of your army can attack them without exposing your backline. This way the terrain will be to your advantage instead of positioning your units awkwardly.
There are two sets of ambushes, the western one should be dealt with first as Alois will be moving immediately up the walkway on the east. Alois, Shamir, and Seteth aren't very dangerous, as their personal abilities don't have much effect, and its very easy to lure Shamir and Seteth when you're ready. Flayne has around 70 might with Abraxas, and has the annoying combination of Miracle and Defiant Magic. If you're trying to spare her but don't have Byleth near her yet, you can stall for some time by dropping her to 1 health and making her immobile with gambits, forcing her to use her Elixir.
