“ | King Eldigan of Nordion draws lineage from Hoðr the Brave, one of the legendary Twelve Crusaders. | ” | — An Agustria villager |
---|
Hoðr (Japanese: ヘズル Hezul), dubbed the "Black Knight" (Japanese: 黒騎士), was a member of the Twelve Crusaders, the original wielder of Mystletainn and the founder of the Kingdom of Agustria.
Biography
As with the other Crusaders, Hoðr was a warrior fighting in a revolution against the tyranny of the Loptrian Empire, and was one of the survivors barricaded in Dahna Fortress when the tide turned against their movement. It was at this fortress that the Miracle of Dahna occurred, changing the tide of the war: Hoðr was chosen by an unidentified member of the twelve dragon "gods" who descended upon the fortress, to undergo a blood-bond with said dragon, transforming him into one of the Crusaders. He was granted Mystletainn, sealed to his new holy lineage, by this dragon.
With the other Crusaders, Hoðr fought in the rest of the Holy War and contributed to the downfall of the Loptrian Empire. At the war's conclusion, Hoðr founded Agustria and reigned as its first king. Of his numerous children, only his youngest daughter inherited his Brand and major Holy Blood; this daughter was married off to the Nordion nobility of Agustria, inadvertently permanently transferring his Holy Blood to House Nordion. As a result, following Hoðr's death, none of his direct descendants - the future monarchs of Agustria - possessed his Holy Blood.[1] This was eventually rectified in Grann 778, where after the extermination of the Agusti royal family two decades earlier, the Agustrian throne was succeeded by the major-blooded Ares of Nordion following the liberation of Agustria from the Grannvale Empire.
