“ | It looks as though...my path...will end here. My teacher...claim your victory. Strike me down. You must! Even now...across this land, people are killing each other. If you do not act now, this conflict...will go on forever. Your path...lies across my grave. It is time for you to find the courage to walk it. If I must fall...let it be by your hand. I wanted...to walk with you... | ” | — Edelgard |

Conclusion of the Crossing Roads/Script (Verdant Wind)
After rallying their troops, Claude/Seteth and Byleth lead the Alliance/Resistance forces in a direct assault on the Imperial Palace. The group engages Edelgard in a tumultuous battle and finally defeat her once and for all. The mortally wounded Edelgard bids Byleth finish her off in order to end the conflict, and Byleth obliges. Afterwards, as Byleth mourns Edelgard, they receive a letter from Hubert. His final words explain that Kronya and Solon's allies, a faction known as "those who slither in the dark", still remain active, that they were responsible for the destruction of Fort Merceus, that they resent the "children of the goddess" and all of humanity, and that they must be stopped lest they destroy humanity; he directs the Alliance/Resistance to their stronghold at Shambhala. He also reveals that Rhea is alive and in captivity in a secret chamber within the palace. On the Verdant Wind route, Claude and Byleth resolve to ask Rhea about all of this.
The Alliance/Resistance forces rescue Rhea. When informed about Hubert's letter, Rhea reluctantly explains that the Liberation King Nemesis was originally the leader of a group of bandits who plundered the Holy Tomb and stole the remains of the progenitor god Sothis. Nemesis went to the Red Canyon Zanado and used the Sword of the Creator to massacre the children of the progenitor god who were living there, gained power from their dead bodies, and brought war to Fódlan. Claude realizes that "those who slither in the dark" used Nemesis to bring war to Fódlan, as they did the Imperial army; Edelgard intended to manipulate them the same way. Claude/Seteth marshals the Alliance/Resistance forces and prepares to besiege Shambhala.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Straight to the battlefield this time. Stock up at the marketplace, grab a Thief or three Chest Keys, and get ready to rock. Your first order of business is to clear out the starting room. Kill Petra with extreme prejudice; her absolutely insane 90 avoid before accounting for Keen Intuition or Alert Stance+ makes her very dangerous. Gambits are your friends here. Watch out for the Demonic Beasts to the left and right. Once you're done with that, swoop south to deal with Dorothea and her minions. At this point, you can circle back north and sweep up the loot and item drops in the southern corners. Dedue appears on turn 3; you can send some of your troops to reinforce him if you want to try to keep him alive. Fortunately, he laughs at physical damage, so just make sure to pick off any mages that get too close. Keep pushing northward and converge at the throne room, where you can finally take out Edelgard.
Trivia
- On the Silver Snow version of this chapter, the player loses access to the deployment slot used by Claude on Verdant Wind.
