Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
This is another simple early-game map that allows you to take the enemies basically at your own pace. If most of your units are level 5 at the end of it, you're in good shape. If they've mastered the Noble/Commoner class and picked up HP +5, you're in really good shape. You especially want to get your mages to the Monk class since Noble/Commoner halves uses of magic. You unlock Divine Pulse at the start of this battle, a very useful tool that allows you to undo moves if you make a mistake or get screwed by the RNG. On Maddening, many of the enemies will be able to double you, forcing you to rely on Byleth and the lord as tanks to get by.
Start by sending a couple of bulky units to lure in the first group of three using the bridge as a chokepoint. The Archer here serves as a brutal introduction to the improvements bows have received in this game to their range and utility. After taking them out, the next group of three will approach and get demolished just the same. The next wave is a couple of Thieves and a Priest. You know what to do. While you're dealing with them, another wave of three will aggro. The Fighter with the Chest Key is a very alluring target, but he has a battalion and is very trigger-happy with his gambit, so make sure to position your units such that he can't hit two for the price of one.
Once you've taken out the first wave of enemies, you can claim the chest. While you can get away with splitting your forces on Normal and Hard, on Maddening it's simply too dangerous and you should send everyone up the west side. You should have no trouble taking out the rest of the bandits at this point. Kostas only moves on Maddening; he can obliterate anyone except a solidly-leveled Byleth or the lord, but he has no range and buckles to a couple of hard hits.
