Shannam (Japanese: シャナム Shanam) is a playable swordmaster in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is an impersonator of Shannan, crown prince of Isaach. He first appeared unnamed in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

Biography

Shannam is an impersonator of Prince Shannan of Isaach. Settling in Tarrah, he uses his look to charm women. During the siege of Tarrah, he refuses to help with the defense of the city.[2] During the final assault on Tarrah, Shannam decides to flee the city; however, he is spotted by the bard Homer, to whom he reveals his real name before leaving. Later, while working as a mercenary under bandits, he encounters Shannan's niece Mareeta, who confuses him for Shannan. Shannam gives her vague hints, accidentally teaching her Astra in the process.[3] Not long after, Shannam starts working under the Loptr Church in Millefeuille Forest. During the battle, he meets back with Homer, who convinces him to join Leif's liberation army, whom he accompanies until the liberation of Munster.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Role

During Chapter 9, if Jeanne or Hermina visits one of the villages in the northwest of the map, someone claiming to be Shannan appears and tries to ask them to dinner. When asked to show her the Balmung, he produces a Dracoshield instead and fails to convince her of its authenticity.

Though the group of villages in the northwest of Chapter 9 are unnamed in Genealogy of the Holy War, they match the location of Tarrah provided on the maps of Thracia 776. This is the same location where Shannam is first found in Thracia 776.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Shannam is a playable character. In Chapter 15 appears as an enemy unit on turn 11. Mareeta can talk to her, teaching her Astra. In Chapter 16B, Shannam appears as an enemy unit. He is recruited when talked to by Homer.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Shannam is a prepromoted level 1 Swordmaster that joins in Chapter 16B of Thracia 776 by talking to Homer. Uncharacteristically for a unit of his class or any prepromote in general, all of his base stats are very low, along with having a FCM of 0. Shannam does not have any useful combat skills other than Adept, and even then, his speed is too low for him to have meaningful activation chances. He will contribute nothing in his joining chapter, as he is recruited in a chapter taking place deep in the forest, giving everyone boosted avoid. The Iron Blade he starts with cripples his attack speed down to zero, harming his avoid as well.

Shannam has high growths in HP, strength, speed, and luck; despite this, his bases are so low at the point he joins in that they will not help him much. His other stats only have a very low growth at 5%. His low skill stat in particular will give him middling hit rates in battle.

If you are absolutely serious in wanting to turn Shannam into a competent combat unit, you may need to feed him a couple of stat boosters in the next chapter to prop up his bases a bit so that they are at least workable. It is also recommended to give him a lighter sword so that he does not get significantly weighed down. You can then use Crusader Scrolls to boost his growth rates; in particular, he would need some extra growths in skill to stabilize his long-term hit rates, so he can put scrolls boosting his skill growth to good use. However, because he is a prepromote, his EXP gain would be low from killing most enemies.

Shannam is the only character in the game with the Bargain skill, which allows him to purchase items from vendors and armories at a discount, though unfortunately there are not many shops selling useful items left beyond the point where he joins, and you would have likely amassed enough gold at this point to make his contribution unnecessary. If he has the Member Card in his inventory, he can buy statboosters in the secret shop during Chapter 24 at a reduced price, though they are still expensive. However, he would need someone to Warp him to the shop in order to reach it, due to it being located in a sealed off room in the northeastern part of the map, after which he will remain stuck there for the remainder of the map unless you use Rescue to get him out.

Personality

Despite his imitation of the prince of Isaach, Shannam does not rival the man in skill or confidence. According to Homer, Shannam also sounds nothing like Shannan.[4] He does, however, have more than a passing resemblance to Shannan physically. When Mareeta requests that he teach her the Astra skill, which he does not know, he gives her vague advice in an attempt to maintain his cover.

While Shannam does take work as a mercenary, he primarily uses his looks to mooch off of people fooled by his appearance.[5]

Endings

Shannam, Boastful Myrmidon
Instead of working for the New Kingdom of Thracia, Shannam returned to his hometown in Isaach. He then quit being a mercenary and lived a normal life.

  • Shannam is very similar to Samuel from Archanea. While Shannam impersonates Shannan, Samuel impersonates Navarre.
