The Light Brand, also known as the Light Sword, is a rare sword-type weapon in the Fire Emblem series that enables its user to attack from a distance.
In the Jugdral games, this weapon casts Lightning when the user is not adjacent to their oponent. In this mode, it takes into account the user's magic and the enemy's resistance; if used in melee combat, it works with the user's strength and the enemy's defense stats. In Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, it becomes Leaf's personal weapon, giving him 10 points more to the Luck stat. He can also use it to recover HP, as if it were a vulnerary.
In the GBA games, sword-wielding units do not have a magic stat, and so, the damage dealt by this sword follows two different formulae. In Fuuin no Tsurugi, this sword always makes a damage of 10 HP when attacking from afar, regardless of any stat; in Blazing Sword and The Sacred Stones, the indirect attack of this sword is considered as light magic, and it targets the enemy's resistance while taking into account the user's strength.
The light brand debuted in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, and it is present in the four games after it: Thracia 776, Fuuin no Tsurugi, Blazing Sword, and The Sacred Stones.
