Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Deen is a pre-promoted Wyvern Rider who joins in Chapter 14. As such, his availability is limited, since he joins in the second half of Thracia 776.
Deen's base stats are very good across the board, and while he is not invincible, he can still kill most enemies with ease. With his follow-up critical modifier of 3, if he is given a Killer Lance, he will have roughly a 90% chance to crit on the second attack, which will surely kill all but the toughest enemies. His base weapon ranks are both excellent—when mounted, he can use A-level lances, and when dismounted, he can use A-level swords. This allows him to use all the good non-personal swords and lances in Thracia 776, further increasing his combat potential.
Deen can obtain a personal weapon in the chapter when he joins—the Dragonpike, which is a personal weapon in Thracia 776. It has a very high might at 16 and has a brave effect, all but guaranteeing that Deen will one-round enemies with it. On top of that, it also gives Deen Vantage, allowing him to kill 1-range enemies on enemy phase without taking any damage. It is difficult to obtain, because it is located in a house surrounded by enemies effective against Deen, including a Tornado tome user and several ballistae. Aside from that, Deen is good enough at combat without the Dragonpike. However, obtaining the Dragonpike further increases Deen's combat potential to the point that he becomes one of the best combat units in the army on outdoor maps.
In indoor maps, Deen's usefulness is more limited. On outdoor maps, he benefits from flying movement, which allows him to move around freely and reach important locations sooner than other units. On indoor maps, his movement is much worse and he can only use swords, preventing him from using good lances, including his personal Dragonpike. However, Deen still has A rank swords indoors, which allows the player to give him good swords, maintaining his good combat. He can even use utility swords like the Sleep Sword or the Kingmaker, so when it comes to combat and utility, Deen is not that much worse off in indoor chapters.
One more thing worth mentioning is that Deen has two mutual support partners in Eda and Linoan. While Eda is a worse unit than Deen, they share the same movement type, so getting them in each other's support range is not difficult. Linoan's bonus is even higher, and she is a better unit than Eda, but more difficult to keep in Deen's range due to movement differences. Neither of these supports is necessary for Deen to function, but they can further improve his already good combat if the player wishes to make use of them. Conversely, making use of these supports can also improve Linoan and Eda's combat, further increasing Deen's utility.
To improve Deen's long-term potential, the player can give him several scrolls, increasing his growth rates and making him immune to critical hits. However, even without that investment, Deen remains one of the best units in Thracia 776, who combines flying utility with excellent combat. Even dismounted, he is more than capable of fighting enemies effectively.
