Count Leopold von Bergliez (pronounced /'bɝgliz/[key]; Japanese: ベルグリーズ伯爵 Count Bergliez), is a non-playable character mentioned in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is Caspar's father and the head of House Bergliez.
Biography
Count Bergliez is the head of House Bergliez of the Adrestian Empire. By Imperial Year 1163, he has had two sons—the second being Caspar, who was born in 1163.[1] In 1168, his father retires, letting him officially inherit the title of Count, and Minister of Military Affairs.[2]. In 1171, Count Bergliez gets involved in the Insurrection of the Seven, in which Duke Aegir and other Imperial nobles seized power from Emperor Ionius IX after the latter was pushing reforms which would consolidate the power to himself.[3]
In 1175, the Dagda and Brigid War occurred, an event in which both Dagda and Brigid joined forces in an attempt to invade the Adrestian Empire. Count Bergliez and the Imperial Army intercepted their armies past House Nuvelle and House Ochs's territory, and managed to defeat them while also slaying the king of Brigid.[4][5]
In 1180, it is implied Count Bergliez, along with some of the nobles involved with the Insurrection of the Seven, made a deal with Edelgard von Hresvelg behind Duke Aegir's back, allowing the Imperial princess to ascend the imperial throne with no intervention from their part, while also letting her assume the Empire's upcoming conquest against the Church of Seiros, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and the Leicester Alliance in 1181, for which Count Bergliez provides her access to the Imperial Army.[6][7] As a result, he gets pardoned from his involvement with Duke Aegir's insurrection[8] and is allowed to contribute in her war efforts.
In the Silver Snow, Azure Moon, and Verdant Wind routes, after Edelgard's defeat in 1186, Count Bergliez surrenders to Byleth's chosen faction[9] and sacrifices his life to ensure the wellbeing and protection of his troops.[10] Meanwhile, in the Crimson Flower route, Count Bergliez is assigned the governance of Leicester after being seized by the Empire during Edelgard's war,[11] and remains alive during the rest of the campaign.
