The Bowgun is a rare bow-type weapon in the Fire Emblem series. When it debuted in the series, it was as a basic bow, whose main selling points were its increased critical rate and its low weapon level, ensuring that all playable bow users could wield it immediately. In its second appearance, seventeen years later, it was reclassified as a crossbow, which could attack adjacent and distant enemies alike with a somewhat fixed damage output.
The bowgun has appeared in two games: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Radiant Dawn. It did not appear in either remake of the first game.
