From Pain, Awakening (Japanese: 目覚めの刻 Waking Moment) is the endgame of Part III of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In this chapter, Ike and Micaiah clash one last time in a chaotic battle that fans the flames of the Fire Emblem.

Plot

Main articles: From Pain, Awakening/Script and From Pain, Awakening/Conversations

Nailah and Rafiel meet with Micaiah, when they learn from her that she is being held to Begnion by a blood pact. She is trapped in a dilemma: if she does not let Sanaki through Daein, the uprising in Begnion will result in more and more casualties, but if she does, the blood pact's curse will be invoked and destroy Daein. Seeking answers, Micaiah speaks to Almedha, who initially refuses to divulge on the details of the blood pact.

If Pelleas was sacrificed, Almedha breaks down in despair over her lost son, only for Kurthnaga to arrive and attempt to calm her down, asking her not to let Pelleas's death be in vain. Almedha calms down, and then tells a story of Daein in the year 626. In that time, a disease that spread through Daein, killing everyone but Ashnard. In truth, that disease was the result of another blood pact, used by Ashnard to let him usurp the throne. She explains that there are two conditions for the nullification of a blood pact: the pact-maker must die, and the parchment itself must be destroyed. When Ashnard destroyed the former king's pact, the king's mark disappeared, and the curse was no more. Kurthnaga continues to console Almedha, and asks her to keep Daein safe, as Pelleas wished.

If Pelleas was not sacrificed, he urges Almedha to help, and, when he threatens to let himself die again, she tells the story of the blood pact in 626. Almedha then pleads Pelleas not to let himself die, but to little avail. When she threatens to take her own life in response, Kurthnaga arrives and calms her down. He then clarifies that, when destroying a blood pact, there are technically two pact-makers—in this case Pelleas and Lekain—and that the death of either of them would satisfy the pact's conditions. Almedha then urges Kurthnaga to help her protect Daein, and begins to weep.

In the apostle's army's camp, Ena delivers news to Ike that Kurthnaga has decided to fight with Daein instead of against it. Ike is left flabbergasted by his decision, and Ena further exposits that his father, King Dheginsea, knows nothing about Kurthnaga's leave. After Ike becomes curious of her communication with him, she explains that dragons can use sending stones to speak to others telepathically. With dawn close to breaking, Ike urges her to convince Kurthnaga not to fight.

With no other options, Micaiah orders her army to prepare to fight Sanaki's army. Suddenly, Nailah and Rafiel arrive, and announce their intentions to fight alongside Micaiah. Nailah then casually tells her that Kurthnaga is the prince of Goldoa, and a black dragon. Knowing that he and Almedha are brothers, Micaiah then deduces that Almedha, too, is a black dragon. Skrimir arrives on the other side with Gallian troops, and rallies them to fight. Janaff and Ulki also arrive, with the former noticing that Rafiel is fighting for the other side. Tibarn and Reyson arrive, and remark on how Rafiel's presence as an enemy complicates matters. With Reyson on the battlefield, however, this leaves only Leanne to watch over the medallion. Ike and Ena soon arrive, and Ena states that, due to Goldoa's neutrality, she cannot fight and can only speak to Kurthnaga to aid Ike. Elincia and Lucia then arrive, but Ike urges the former to stay out of combat in case the chance for a peace talk arises, and the two leave. The armies then begin their chaotic, violent showdown.

As the battle rages on, the chaotic energy grows ever stronger, and the laguz continue to slowly lose their control. As Sanaki has yet to receive word of the battle, Naesala appears near her, and she demands him to take her into the battlefield. With the chaotic energy growing too strong, Leanne eventually fails to maintain the medallion and collapses. Micaiah later hears a voice from seemingly nowhere, then leaves the battlefield alongside Sothe to find it. Eventually, Mist begins feeling dizzy, and tells Ike that the medallion is calling her. Either Titania or Boyd will clear a path for Ike to bring Mist there.

The medallion shines brighter than ever before, and Tibarn notes that those with the spirit of order within them must be affected by it. Tibarn and Nailah then explain that Reyson and Rafiel had collapsed in the battle as well. Before they can understand the cause, Mist begins chanting what seems to be a galdr, though with little effect. She then urges Ike to bring Sanaki to sing the galdr of release to release the dark god within; the seal will not hold it for long, and it would otherwise break free from the spirit of war. Sanaki then arrives alongside Naesala, who unsuccessfully attempts to make amends with Tibarn for his past transgressions. Sanaki then chants the galdr, but it has no effect, as she only knows the melody and not the lyrics. Micaiah then walks in along with Sothe and her bird, which perches on the medallion. Having been guided by the voice within for so long, Micaiah sings the full galdr, having remembered it after hearing Sanaki sing.

In a faraway place, the goddess Ashera awakens from her slumber, and a man greets her, saying that beorc and laguz have not held their promise to cease fighting for a thousand years. She then declares that she will pass judgment on all people. Back in the previous room, Mist and Reyson awaken. Naesala once again attempts to make amends for his betrayal, still not changing Tibarn's mind at all. When Nailah begins to worry about Rafiel and Leanne, Micaiah walks forward, but someone else is speaking through her. Back on the battlefield, a strange light rains down, creating a massive explosion, only to be followed with a deafening silence. "Micaiah" then asks everyone to exit, where they find that almost everyone has been turned to stone.

Beginning log

Queen Elincia and the dragons of Goldoa persuade both armies to accept a temporary truce. The blue light that burns within the medallion grows more fierce with each passing day. To prevent the awakening of the evil trapped within, the fighting must be stopped. However, the apostle and her army refuse to abandon Sephiran's forces in Begnion. Though they hoped that Daein would cease fighting, they knew battle was inevitable. The bloodshed begins anew.
