The easiest way to get him an early promotion is through the Horseslayer if it hasn't broken yet. His gigantic base Strength lets him OHKO enemy cavaliers. Given how underleveled he is, killing unpromoted enemies gets him over half a level, let alone promoted enemies. Given this, he can reach Level 10 after roughly 6 kills. | The easiest way to get him an early promotion is through the Horseslayer if it hasn't broken yet. Going beyond Level 10 doesn't do much for Zeiss. He'll almost always have capped Strength by Level 10, and his 35% Speed growth means that he'll get a point of speed, the stat he needs the most, every three levels. As a result, his speed will lag behind most other combat units unless he's given Speedwings. Luckily, he doesn't get doubled very often unless it's a very fast enemy like a Nomad or Myrmidon. He's a fine candidate for Speedwings if they haven't been used before he joins because most combat units worth using should have sufficient speed by the time he joins. Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Zeiss is a Wyvern Rider that joins in chapter 16 of the Binding Blade. He joins in a rather complicated chapter where it can be rather difficult to recruit him without putting some of your units at risk due to him attacking with a javelin through the wall. In normal mode, his bases leave something to be desired, but his hard mode bonuses are as beneficial to him as Melady's are, as he starts with a whopping 19 strength at level 7, as well as 39 HP and 15 defense. He joins a bit underleveled and will need to be fed some kills. Early promotion at level 10 is recommended for Zeiss due to him capping his strength very quickly and needing additional speed and skill to be an effective combat unit. It takes him 6 levels to get the speed boost promotion gives him through level-ups due to his 35% growth, so going beyond Level 10 doesn't do much to help with the stats he needs anyway.
Due to his initial D rank in lances, the most powerful lances he'll have access to are the rather inaccurate steel lances, giving him some significant accuracy issues. Iron lances are also too weak for this point in the game, but promotion gets him to C rank in lances, which gives him the accurate and reasonably powerful Killer Lances. He also gets swords, albeit only Iron Swords for a while.

Zeiss's aid gives him a notable niche among the fliers. His physical durability is on par with Melady while his aid is on par with Thea. This means he has the best of both worlds of the pegasus sisters' aid and his sister's durability. He can rescue heavy units like Dieck or Perceval that Melady cannot while having the bulk to be positioned a bit more aggressively than the pegasus knights.

It's relatively easy to build due to their aforementioned similar mobility, but bear in mind that there may be times that the player wants to send them in different directions as opposed to gluing them together.

Trivia
- Zeiss's wyvern is named Levrey.[4]
- Zeiss is one of the few playable characters in the Fire Emblem GBA games to not have custom palette data attached to one of his possible classes, and the only playable unit in a non-exclusive class to have that distinction. He lacks a palette for his unpromoted class and thus uses the otherwise unused generic playable palette of the Wyvern Rider class.
