Biography
At the onset of the Disturbance of Bern, Alen, along with Lance, Marcus, Bors, and Wolt, was escorting his liege Roy back to Pherae from Ostia after he had been called home by his father Eliwood, the Marquess Pherae. Unexpectedly, the castle of Pherae had been attacked by bandits led by Damas before the group arrived to Pherae. Alen assisted Roy in defeating the bandits and saving those trapped in the castle: Lilina, Eliwood and Merlinus. He then continued to fight for Roy throughout the war against Bern. Following the conclusion of the Disturbance of Bern, Alen assisted Roy in reconstructing the war-torn land; it is said that his passion and will inspired many.

The Cavalier class by itself makes both Alen and Lance good. It provides a high movement range of 7, two weapon types (swords and lances) for weapon triangle control and the ability to rescue units and then move in the same turn (allowing rescue drop strategies). Cavaliers also promote to Paladin, which gives them the ability to use axes (and thus perfect weapon triangle control), an additional point of movement and very good stat boosts all around.

Alen will likely edge out Lance due to having advantages in HP, Strength, and Defense, while maintaining just enough Speed to double who he needs to double. Of course, both are really good cavaliers with the best availability in the game. The first Knight Crest you acquire should go to either him or Lance, as they are the best candidates for it. As long as they stay relatively close to their average stats, both Christmas cavaliers will be solid units in your roster throughout the whole game.
Alen and Lance have all their growth rates within 5% of each other, so their differences in performance come down to their supports and their base stats. Compared to Lance, Alen has two less Speed, meaning it will take him longer to start doubling enemies, but two more Strength, allowing him to deal about four more damage on average once he can start doubling. Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Alen is The Binding Blade's Cain archetype, and joins alongside his partner Lance at the beginning of the game. The decision of whether to use Alen or Lance comes down to personal preference and the whims of the RNG. A solid strategy is to use both at the beginning and keep the one that is growing better when you get better characters and can't deploy both anymore.

Of course, both are really good cavaliers with the best availability in the game. The first Knight Crest you acquire should go to either him or Lance, as they are the best candidates for it. As long as they stay relatively close to their average stats, both Cavaliers will be solid units in your roster throughout the whole game.

Personality

Alen is a reckless knight with a fiery personality. His fighting style is often to charge into the enemy with brute force. To Thea, he explains that it is because as a cavalier of the army, he must show his strength to the enemy.[2] However, Marcus advises him not to be so rash when fighting.[3] Although he is daring, he takes his job as a knight very seriously. He is very devoted to protecting other soldiers, especially Roy. He trains very hard to get stronger, even on the battlefield, in order to help Roy.

Alen says little about his past. Additionally, he is a very good friend of Lance.
