Igrene (イグレーヌ Igurēnu) is a character in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. She first appears in Chapter 14.
Igrene is a sniper deemed as the Guardian of Nabata, a title previously granted to her father Hawkeye. She was married to a man named Golrois (who is possibly the thief Astore), and had a daughter who died of unknown causes.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
Igrene was born in Arcadia, a village hidden in the Nabata desert, as the daughter of the berserker Hawkeye, the Guardian of Nabata, and an unknown mother. When Hawkeye had returned from his journey with Eliwood's army back to the village, he trained Igrene to become the next Guardian of the desert. Overtime, Igrene attained mastery of the bow, and took upon her father's title as the village's gatekeeper. It can also be implied that during this time, she became friends with the Nabatan priestess Sophia and the Dragon girl Fae.
Years later, when in the middle of the desert, Igrene came across a man named Golrois, who was unconscious because he had sustained many blade wounds and had no memory of the events that resulted in his condition. She took him back to the village Arcadia, where she tended to his wounds and, overtime, grew closer towards each other. At the same time, Golrois began to recall some of his memories, a circumstance that Igrene reacted to in both joy and fear.[1] They became married and had a daughter together. However, their happy lives together came to a halt when a horde of bandits attacked the village, where Golrois left to fight them off. Afterwards, Igrene never saw him again, and sometime before or after this event, her daughter tragically passed away of unknown causes.
During the war of Bern, Arcadia was under attack of the Bernite forces led by Randy, who have discovered that Dragons reside there. Meanwhile Igrene tries to protect the village, and especially Fae, who is a Dragon herself and whose existence must not be exposed to the enemy. After the battle is over, Igrene joins Roy and the Lycian League to assist in defeating Bern so that the Nabatan village will not have to worry about them attacking again. However, shortly after she and the army depart the village, Fae is captured by Bern's forces, but is luckily rescued soon afterwards, and she and Igrene continue with the group.
After the war finally came to an end, Igrene stated that she would return to her home in the Nabata desert, just like Sophia and Fae have. However, it has been reported that she has been seen in different parts of the Elibian continent, and it is unknown how Igrene lived the remainder of her life. It is possible that she left to search for her husband, who disappeared after the village excursion, but her future is unclear.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Role
In Blazing Sword, Igrene does not make an appearance. However, she is mentioned a few times in the game. In Chapter 30 of Eliwood's route and Chapter 32 of Hector's route, Hawkeye can talk to Sophia in the temple at the bottom right of the battle map. There, Hawkeye tells her to inform his daughter, Igrene, that he will be returning home soon.[2] Also, in Hawkeye's support conversation with his friend Louise, Louise tells him that she bought two bows, one for herself, and one as a gift for Igrene, and urges him to return home soon so his daughter won't be lonely. Later on, in return, Hawkeye gives Louise a beautiful necklace that once belonged to his wife, and tells her to give it to Igrene if he were to die in battle.[3]
Personality and character
Igrene has an overall rather solemn but very just and loyal personality. As the Guardian of Nabata, she takes her role very seriously, doing everything she can to protect her homeland, whether it be with her bow and arrow or through diplomacy, such as when she requests to Etrurian general Douglas to not have his fellow comrades attack the village.[4] However, outside of this demeanor, she has a very soft side to her. She is in deep pain and sorrow of the downfall of her family. She holds back her emotions when talking with Fae, even though it is clear she is pained by these thoughts.[5] However, when she tries to convince Astore that he is indeed her husband Golrois, she is much more emotional about the situation, especially at its conclusion.[6] It also turns out that she was a fairly religious individual, until her husband disappeared and her daughter passed on.[7]
Through support conversations, it is shown that Igrene is very good friends with Sophia and Fae, backed by the fact that she is their sole protector. In fact, to the both of them, she acts as sort of a kind and gentle mother figure, having had a child in the past. This is especially the case with the little girl Fae, to which Igrene treats much like her daughter. She speaks and treats her much like a mother would, and they both share a very close bond, such as when Igrene scolds Fae about keeping her promises[8] or offering to braid her hair.[9] The same can somewhat be said for the relationship between Igrene and Sophia, as Igrene acts as a guide for Sophia, who has not been exposed to the outside world until recently.[10]
