“ | I'm sorry. I can't go back. King Garon is a coward and a liar. I've witnessed enough of his destruction. Causing an explosion in a crowded city center with no regard for innocent life. That's the action of a madman. | ” | — Corrin reasoning for their decision of siding with Hoshido |
---|
In the White Light (Japanese: 光へ手を伸ばす A Hand Reaches Toward the Light) is the sixth chapter of the Birthright campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin has made his/her fateful decision to take the Hoshidan side of the family's squabble and side with his/her (apparent) blood siblings, and thus must face off against the people he/she grew up knowing as his/her siblings.
Plot
- Main article:
In the White Light/Script - The below plot corresponds to the use of a male Corrin. If you refresh this page, it is possible to get an alternate reading using a female variation instead.
Continuing from Corrin's decision having chosen to side with Hoshido, he tells Xander to withdraw his troops, after which Xander deduces Corrin's decision to which Corrin confirms; Xander states his fear that the Hoshidans might have tried to brainwash Corrin and states that he knows of his Hoshidan lineage yet still sees him as his brother and that Camilla, Leo, and Elise also feel that way before begging him to return to Nohr. Corrin states that he is not returning to Nohr and states that Garon is a coward and a liar, and that causing an explosion in a crowded city center with no regard for innocent life is a clear sign of a madman; Corrin then states that, if Garon thought of him as family, he would not have orchestrated that incident as he could have easily been killed alongside Mikoto, telling Xander that Garon is pure evil. Xander refuses to believe him and then starts attacking Corrin intent on getting him to change his mind and vowing to kill him if he does not comply, after which Ryoma jumps into the fray to protect Corrin; Xander then calls Camilla, Leo, and Elise into action, with them vowing to ensure Corrin returns to Nohr with them--this is followed by Ryoma calling Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura into action, vowing to protect Corrin.
Right as the battle is about to begin, Felicia runs onto the battlefield and tells Corrin that she's made it back to him and asks him if everything is OK, to which Corrin states that they're far from OK but that there's no time to explain; Corrin tells Felicia that her timing is terrible and asks her what she's doing in the area at this time, to which Felicia states that she's been looking for Corrin the whole time and now that she's in the area, she'll be by his side. The battle begins at this point.
Once the battle ends, Corrin wonders if the future of the Hoshidans is a lifetime of conflict with Nohr, to which Azura states that she understands Corrin's reluctance to fight and suggests leaving the fighting to her and Ryoma; Corrin states that burying his head in the sand won't change the reality of the situation and reaffirms his decision to side with Hoshido, stating that the hardest choice he has ever had to make is hopefully the right choice that leads to peace. The intro cutscene to the Birthright campaign, "Hoshido Intro", plays at this point, followed by the tutorial and formal introduction to the My Castle concept.
Summary

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
For the Birthright path, your starting lineup consists of everyone you had access to for Chapter 5 plus Felicia/Jakob. Rinkah has surprisingly poor Strength for an axe unit, but she has decent bulk and gives good bulk with her Pair-Up bonuses. Kaze is in the coveted Ninja class, giving him high Speed and unrestricted two-range weapons to help him deal with the Birthright route's emphasis on enemy quantity over quality. Sakura is a basic healer; she has surprisingly good Strength, making her a solid Priestess. Azura is very good for a Dancer owing to her good join time, and can actually become a decent glass cannon in addition to her traditional Dancer role. Felicia and Jakob are both very good early game healers due to their early access to endgame-level skills. In particular, Felicia makes great use of the Flame Shuriken. You have room to experiment a bit with your Avatar on the Birthright route due to the lower difficulty; +Speed/-Luck is never a bad choice. If playing as a male, the Fighter class is the best to pass on to Reina since she can get great Pair-Up bonuses as a Berserker, while the Samurai class is the best to pass on to Scarlet since Vantage works very well with her personal skill In Extremis. You also have temporary control of the Hoshidan royal siblings, but they can't gain experience.
The Avatar and Felicia/Jakob should tag-team the Fighter, while Kaze and Rinkah should tag-team the Outlaw. Hinoka and Takumi should block off the bridge while disposing of Leo. Azura can dance for anyone who needs it, and Sakura should heal Hinoka. Finally, Ryoma should move onto Leo's old spot and kill the Cavalier so that Takumi will not be defeated on the enemy phase. Xander will then attack Ryoma. If he crits, that's that; if not, you can finish him off on turn 2.
Trivia
- On a Conquest cartridge, the game cannot proceed past this point without the player purchasing and downloading the Birthright campaign as DLC.
- Elise is the only Nohr royal sibling who is not fought outside of this chapter.
