— Leo

Leo (Japanese: レオン, Leon) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. He is a younger prince of Nohr and the son of Garon. He is one of the Avatar's adoptive siblings. He is very intelligent and does not like making mistakes. He favors using magic over fighting with a sword. Like all other Nohrian and Hoshidian royalty, he possesses the power of Dragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.

Fire Emblem Fates

Role

Leo is the Avatar's younger adoptive brother. After a sparring match between the Avatar and Xander, he accompanies the Avatar to the capital of Nohr. There, the Avatar is made to execute several helpless Hoshidan prisoners, including Rinkah and Kaze. When the Avatar refuses to go through with it, Leo pretends to execute them, but merely wounds them so that Xander can sneak them out. During the expedition to the Bottomless Canyon, when the mission degenerates into a battle against Hoshido, Leo and his siblings rescue the Avatar from Hoshidan reinforcements.

Birthright

If the Avatar sides with Hoshido, Leo feels angry and betrayed. When the Avatar's party is tricked and attacked by the Nohrian dark mage Zola, Leo arrives at the end of the battle intending to execute Zola for his dishonesty and cowardice. The Avatar convinces him to spare Zola, but Leo denounces the Avatar as a traitor. He ambushes the group in the Woods of the Forlorn and attempts to convince himself and the Avatar that he always hated them and felt jealous of Xander and Camilla's favoritism, but he is unable to bring himself to battle his beloved brother/sister and is defeated. The Avatar refuses to kill him, and Azura gives him a mysterious crystal. Leo provides the group with a warp book that can transport them to and back from Notre Sagesse so they can meet the Rainbow Sage and receive his power. Leo leaves to examine Azura's crystal, which shows him Garon's true form. Realizing that the Avatar is in the right, he appears one final time to execute Iago and to give the Avatar his blessing, although he is unable to raise his tome against his father. After the war, Camilla abdicates the Nohrian throne, and Leo becomes the king.

Conquest

If the Avatar sides with Nohr, Leo helps them beat back the Hoshidans. When Garon sends them to suppress the Ice Tribe rebellion, Leo goes behind Garon's back and sends his retainers Odin and Niles to aid them. Afterwards, Leo joins the Avatar during an assassination attempt against Garon.

Personality and character

Unlike Xander, Leo excels in magic and wields the weapon Brynhildr. He is exceptionally smart and can handle any situation with ease. Instead of going outside, he prefers to sit inside with a book or study. Like his siblings, he seems to be bitter about the fact that they were born in order to gain favour in King Garon's eyes. This led to him growing a cold exterior, but he does express love for his siblings and retainers.

Despite being very capable, he longs for attention from his older siblings. He believes that he is too capable and that the Avatar needs their attention more due to the fact that they have not dealt with the world outside of the tower they were locked up in. This leads to him saying that the Avatar monopolizes them for attention. Howevr, he still loves the Avatar dearly and wishes to not make them sad.

Like Takumi, he feels inferior to his older brother, which is the reason he took up magic, so he could escape Xander's shadow. In his supports with Takumi, he does not get along with him because of his heritage. As their supports go on, they realise they are quite similar and befriend each other.

He likes tomatoes the most out of the army.

Leo and the Avatar get along very well, the Avatar likes to tease him about his collar.[2]

Sorcerous Prince: Leo
Leo was invaluable during Nohr's era of change. He took the brunt of the people's ill will by helping spread Xander's bold policies. Later generations revered him for his contributions and sacrifices.
