The use of DLC in Fates was heavily expanded upon compared to its predecessor. With the exception of the DLC campaigns, purchasing and accessing DLC was again handled through a location on the game's world map, the Dragon's Gate, which the player could access from Chapter 6 onward. At the Gate, the player could access the options to purchase downloadable content from an online store, then play it. The Dragon's Gate also gave a new option which allows players to redeem serial numbers found in certain products, such as TCGCipher. | The use of DLC in Fates was heavily expanded upon compared to its predecessor. Downloadable content was available in three forms. The standard individual chapter format returned from Awakening, with each having variable difficulty and with some of them involving cameo appearances of characters from earlier FES titles. These chapters can be replayed any number of times for experience and rewards (save for those rewards that are one-time only). The second form was individual characters, now separated from DLC chapters, which join the player's party as bonus units when accessed after purchase. The third was campaigns, allowing the purchase of any of the game's three campaigns which are not included in whichever version the player initially purchased. | Downloadable content was available in three forms. The standard physical edition of Fates is divided into two versions, Birthright and Conquest, each containing only one of the campaigns. To play the other campaign without purchasing the other version at full price, owners of one campaign have to buy the other campaign as DLC for somewhat less than the price of the basic retail game. The digital release on the Nintendo eShop works similarly, in that the player chooses one campaign after purchase and had to purchase the other as DLC. | The standard physical edition of Fates is divided into two versions, Birthright and Conquest, each containing only one of the campaigns. Unlike the game's other DLC, campaigns were purchased from the game's main menu, found under the "Pave a new future" option. Once more than one campaign had been purchased, the player selected which campaign they will follow once they reach Chapter 6 of the game's shared default chapters. If the player had not purchased further campaigns, this part would instead show them a reminder to purchase more campaigns. | Unlike the game's other DLC, campaigns were purchased from the game's main menu, found under the "Pave a new future" option. This is a list and summary of downloadable content available in Fire Emblem Fates.
Overview
The use of DLC in Fates was heavily expanded upon compared to its predecessor. With the exception of the DLC campaigns, purchasing and accessing DLC was again handled through a location on the game's world map, the Dragon's Gate, which the player could access from Chapter 6 onward. At the Gate, the player could access the options to purchase downloadable content from an online store, then play it. The Dragon's Gate also gave a new option which allows players to redeem serial numbers found in certain products, such as Fire Emblem Cipher.
Downloadable content was available in three forms. The standard individual chapter format returned from Awakening, with each having variable difficulty and with some of them involving cameo appearances of characters from earlier Fire Emblem series titles.
As of March 27th, 2023, all DLC for the 3DS games, including Fates, has been rendered unpurchasable due to the closure of the Nintendo eShop.
Available DLC campaigns
The standard physical edition of Fates is divided into two versions, Birthright and Conquest, each containing only one of the campaigns. To play the other campaign without purchasing the other version at full price, owners of one campaign have to buy the other campaign as DLC for somewhat less than the price of the basic retail game. The digital release on the Nintendo eShop works similarly, in that the player chooses one campaign after purchase and had to purchase the other as DLC.

DLC packs
Like the US and European versions of Awakening, the Japanese version of Fates offered packs of DLC which contained multiple episodes in a single discounted package. Typically available from the release of the first DLC chapter in the pack, it allowed all DLC chapters to be bought at once. Once bought, all of the DLC would show up in the Dragon's Gate menu, and trying to access a map before it was released would prompt a message that the content would be available in the future.

Available DLC characters
The Cipher DLC characters could not be purchased individually through the game alone. Instead, players who wanted these characters had to purchase select packs of cards from Fire Emblem Cipher, the card game which accompanied the release of Fates. Packs which qualified would have a download code for a specific character, which could then be redeemed at the Dragon's Gate to download and use this character. The card's artwork serves as each character's portrait in-game.
This list does not include the four characters added through use of amiibo figurines.
