The Black Knight (Japanese: 漆黒の騎士 Dark Knight) was the strongest of the Four Riders of Daein during the Mad King's War and the right-hand man to the Mad King Ashnard himself. As the Black Knight he was an enigmatic warrior, never seen outside his blessed, pitch-black armor, and was feared for his immense strength. His obsession with the former Daein general Gawain evolved into a bitter rivalry with Gawain's son, Ike, who swore to slay the Black Knight and avenge his father. Believed to have been killed by Ike in the war's last days, the Black Knight resurfaced three years later during Daein's struggle for independence from the Begnion garrison, as an ally of the Daein freedom fighter Micaiah.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
The Black Knight makes recurring appearances as an enemy throughout the game. He appears in Chapter 11 on the next enemy phase after the player attacks Mackoya, and again in Chapter 24 at the end of turn 7 (Easy and Normal) or 5 (Difficult). In both of these appearances the player has no ways of damaging him and he can easily kill most units, so the goal is to finish the chapter as quickly as possible and to stay out of his range. His final appearance is as the boss of the second half of Chapter 27, where Ike duels him with only Mist for help. The goal of the map is to defeat the Black Knight, but if Ike does not have the stats or skills to do it in time, he can simply retreat or survive for six turns to end the fight and continue with the game.
In all appearances, the Black Knight possesses blessed armor which nullifies all damage not inflicted by Ike's Ragnell, Giffca's Claw, Tibarn and Naesala's Beaks, and Nasir and Ena's Breaths. The latter five units are not available at any point where the Black Knight appears, so Ike is the only unit able to fight him after receiving Ragnell in Chapter 27.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role
The Black Knight is playable for brief periods of time in Micaiah-focused chapters. He first becomes playable in Part 1 Chapter 9, as one of only two playable units in that map along with Micaiah herself, and continues to be playable in the Part 1 Endgame. He leaves the party at the end of Part 1, but rejoins several turns into Part 3 Chapter 6. He is not playable again after that point, but reappears as a NPC in Part 4 Chapter 3. During his time as a playable unit, the Black Knight's death is an automatic Game Over, although that is extremely unlikely to ever happen given how strong he is compared to the enemies of those chapters.
The Black Knight makes two appearances as an enemy unit. Along with the rest of Micaiah's army, he is present as an enemy in Part 3 Chapter 7. While defeating him is not part of the chapter's objective, the task of having Ike engage him in battle once with both surviving is required for the chain of events which eventually lead to recruiting Lehran. His final appearance is in the second stage of the Part 4 Endgame, as the boss of that chapter. He and Ike are sequestered in the upper half of the map, and the Black Knight's defeat is the chapter's objective.
When he appears as an enemy, the Black Knight retains his stats and inventory from his last playable appearance. While he is already at his maximum level, it is possible to use stat booster items on him to increase his stats and make him slightly more difficult to fight as an enemy. However, Alondite is locked to him while playable and cannot be removed from his inventory, and none of his skills can be unequipped.
