The Fighter (せんし/戦士, Senshi, meaning "soldier" or "warrior", or ファイター, Faitaa) is an axe-wielding class common throughout the Fire Emblem series. The class first appeared in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and have appeared in every Fire Emblem game since then. In Fire Emblem Gaiden, fighter is a sword-using class exclusive to Alm, and it carries properties quite different from fighters in the rest of the series. Fighters are more specifically called Axe Fighters (アクスファイター, Akusu Faitaa) in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Fighters most typically wield axes, and excel in strength and HP. However, they are generally poor at defense and speed, and their accuracy tends to be the worst of any class. Despite these attributes, fighters generally survive well on the front lines, provided a healer can assist them often.

In Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, fighters do not promote. In Fire Emblem Gaiden, the only fighter in the game, Alm, promotes into a Hero. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War features fighters' first appearance as the class promoting to Warrior, a trend that continues into Fuuin no Tsurugi, Blazing Sword, Path of Radiance, Shadow Dragon, and Shin Monshou no Nazo. In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, fighters also have the option of promoting into Heroes, and in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, after promoting to Warriors, the promote again into Reavers. In Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, fighters promote into Mercenaries.
