The Journeyman (Japanese: かけだし戦士 Novice Fighter) class is an axe-wielding class exclusive to Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. It is one of the three "trainee" classes that appears of the game. As one of the trainee classes, units of the Journeyman class gain experience rapidly, and upon reaching level ten, journeymen can promote upon the start of the next chapter.
Journeymen have three promotion options. The first is to a Fighter, which then can promote to a Hero or a Warrior. The next option is a Pirate, which can promote into a Warrior or a Berserker. The last promotion option, which is only unlocked after both Eirika and Ephraim's routes are completed, is just a journeyman option, which can then promote to a Hero or stay as a journeyman. These two journeyman promotion options are often differentiated from the first as "Journeyman (2)" and "Journeyman (3)" or "Super Journeyman". The final journeyman class has a 15% critical hit bonus.
The only character of this class is Ross. The traits of the Journeyman class make Ross a useful unit, as he has ten more levels to grow than regular classes and another promotion, bringing an extra set of promotion stat gains. Therefore, since journeymen (and other trainee classes) have extra time to grow, they often turn out to be excellent units because of their superior stats. Ross also has quite high stat growths, making him a very useful unit.
