Wyvern Rider (ドラゴンナイト, Doragon Naito in FE4 and FE6-10, ドラゴンライダー, Doragon Raidaa in FE5, or 竜騎士, Ryuukishi, meaning "dragon knight" in FE10) is a name for a basic dragon-riding class found in several games; it has had several names in different games. It first appeared in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War as the Dragon Knight class, while the Dragon Rider class was an enemy-only basic class. Next, in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, the Dragon Rider class became playable and more similar to the Dragon Knight class; this Dragon Rider class's data is included on this page. Afterwards, from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, it was known as the Dragon Knight class again. In English, it was translated as "Wyvern Rider", except for in Radiant Dawn, in which it was translated as the "Dracoknight" class.
In Seisen no Keifu, Dragon Knights use lances and swords. Next, in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, Dragon Riders use lances when riding their dragons and swords when dismounting. Afterwards, from Fuuin no Tsurugi to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Wyvern Riders use only lances. Finally, in Radiant Dawn, Dracoknights can only use axes.
Wyvern riders are quite powerful, with high strength and defense. Their high movement is very useful in traveling and moving. Unfortunately, they have abysmally low resistance, and as flying units, they also have a weakness to bows. In Path of Radiance, they also have a weakness to wind magic, in addition to low resistance. As mounted units, they can move again after certain actions, such as visiting villages or rescuing units. In Radiant Dawn, this is acknowledged with the Canto skill.
In Seisen no Keifu, dragon knights change class to the Dragon Master class. In Thracia 776, they promote to dragon knights. In Fuuin no Tsurugi, Blazing Sword, and Path of Radiance, wyvern riders promote to wyvern lords. In The Sacred Stones, wyvern riders can become either wyvern lords or wyvern knights. Lastly, in Radiant Dawn, dracoknights change class to the dragonmasters. All of the wyvern riders' promoted classes' information can be found on the Wyvern Lord page.
