The Valkyrie (Japanese: ヴァルキュリア Valkyria) is an advanced mounted class which was introduced in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. They are one of only a few mounted magic-wielding classes in the Fire Emblem series. They have acted as the primary promoted class for Troubadours since their introduction, and they primarily use staves in addition to offensive magic, with the type of offensive magic available to them depending on the game.
Valkyries typically play a similar role to their fellow advanced healer class, the Bishop. Their strongest stat is their exceptionally high resistance, and they also have high offensive stats to allow them to provide effective magical offense, with particularly impressive speed. In addition, being a mounted class gives them high movement to allow them to both attack and support their allies with staves with greater ease. Like most magical classes, they suffer from shaky defense, although in the Game Boy Advance games at least, they tend to have higher defense than other magical classes.
In Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, the class is exclusive to Mist of the Greil Mercenaries. It is her promoted class in both games, promoting from Cleric, and wields swords instead of offensive magic in these two games; in Radiant Dawn, it is classified as a third-tier advanced class. The class behaves similarly to its other appearances in terms of stats; however, its strength being its weakest stat is actually relevant given its access to swords. The class's high magic makes Mist one of the few sword-wielders able to make good use of magic swords.
Outside of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, the Valkyrie is the primary promoted form for Troubadours in all appearances, occupying the role formerly filled in the Jugdral games by the Paladin. The Sacred Stones also gives Clerics the option to promote to Valkyrie. Fire Emblem Fates replaces Valkyries with the functionally identical Strategist class.
