The Samurai (Japanese: 侍 Samurai) is a base infantry class debuting in Fire Emblem Fates. The class exclusively wields katana. It is highly similar in function to the Myrmidon class of previous titles, excelling in speed and skill, but lacking in physical strength and defense. Units in this class may promote to either Swordmasters or Masters of Arms.

Samurai were a class of highly-regarded warriors in medieval to early-modern Japan. All samurai were servants of lords and came from high-class, noble families themselves, similar to European knights, and they followed a way of life known as Bushidō. Contrary to their depiction in-game, samurai did not fight exclusively with swords, but are most commonly associated with them. |
