(You know about "custom" items made through hacking? If I'm not mistaken they use the Bronze Sword's model as a placeholder, but can be thrown when used in 2+ tile combat. They THROW the Bronze Sword! Look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY2Q5EM7Hdw)

Fire Emblem Awakening

Outrealm Item (Japanese: 異界のアイテム Otherworld Item) is a placeholder for unidentified items in Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates. It is used in the StreetPass functionality, for when a copy of the game which does not have a downloadable content package containing an exclusive item receives through StreetPass a character with such an item; as the size of the relevant data is unfeasible to transmit through StreetPass, the game instead uses this placeholder data to represent items it does not recognize.

Physical copies of Awakening also have a second method of accessing an Outrealm Item: if the copy of Awakening has purchased the relevant DLC packages, but the Nintendo 3DS console's SD card is not currently inserted in the console, any current DLC items in any of the Awakening cartridge's save files will be represented with the Outrealm Item, as the actual DLC item's data is located on the SD card and thus not presently accessible. As digital copies of Awakening are themselves stored on the SD card, this method is not available to those copies of the game.

There are seven DLC-exclusive items: the All Stats +2 manual, Dread Scroll, the Iote's Shield manual, the Limit Breaker manual, the Paragon manual, Silver Card, and Wedding Bouquet. As such, these are the only items which become an Outrealm Item under these circumstances.
